No, .tar.gz sucks in terms of compression (only sotres things), if you want COMPRESSION use 7z

What are you talking about? tar.gz uses gzip compression, hence the .gz extension.
If you want better compression, use tar.bz2 (bzip)

I totally agree here. If you want to reach the majority of the users here (open source/free software people), don't use proprietary file formats. Although there is an open-source variant of unrar, only works with RAR version 1 and 2, use a free (as in speech) format.

It's a suprize to find that on a site like this, people still use non-free file types to distribute files.

While it appears this sound set is nice, many of us won't ever hear it, only because you've chosen a non-free file type.

If you want wider acceptance... choose a free file type instead.

And KDE-LOOK.org admins... why even let that file type be uploaded in the first place?

I have now archived the sound files using 7-zip. Hope this will appeal to more people. Thank you for the advice.

 Future Twinkles

Just to let you know that I have made some more twinkly sounds.

Thanks to everyone that has emailed/commented/downloaded/rated/generally been lovely.

Big thanks to Simon Bell for all the help and advice.

I am in the process of securing server space... so keep checking for updates :D

Oh, and... I will compress as a Tar.gz too. I don't want to use sucky things.

Hello,

Just to let you know that in 5 weeks time I will have finished my post grad course. So... will have plenty of time to make more Twinkles :D

If you have any particular requests, give me a message and I'll see what I can do.

I have sorted out a server too (thanks to Simon), so things should start improving in terms of file formats.

In the meantime, feel free to join the 'rar sucks' debate. It's getting quite hot and feisty ;)
