Re: The move towards M$ 2.0
Aug 16 2010  on group No Ubuntu Users Allowed!

If you look at Kubuntu's "feature page" (http://www.kubuntu.org/feature-tour) , you'll see Kubnutu mentioned 13 times and KDE is mentioned twice! That's wrong, it seems as though many of the" features" presented in KDE are Kubuntu features. In other words, Kubuntu devs are taking credit for KDE features. I dont think any other distro does that (well maybe a Ubuntu respin). They should present Kubuntu only features and redirect the KDE features to a KDE page. Its kinda what apple did with their "based on UNIX" page.

Tru Dat, Hard core gamers love Wine and its ability to use different DLLs and mount folders as CD drives without external tools(that's what the hardcore gamers I know LOVE about wine). I'm not so pessimistic about the fate of a Web monopoly. Google had their known ad campain that never aired, and I thinks its because Google does not feel that threatened by Bing. I mean I "google" things, I don't "Bing" them. This is not the first time Yahoo and M$ are parterning up, but I does pain me to see Yahoo finally give into Microsoft's demands. I do fear the arrival of IE 9, from what I hear its actually a decent browser and will no doubt use bing as its default search engine... Only time can tell...

This Group Hit the Spot
Aug 8 2010  on group No More Ubuntu Respins!

The ubuntu respins are more of a burden than a blessing. The only "distro" that is not just a renaming of ubuntu is Google's chromium. There's more changes between chromium and ubuntu than ubuntu and debian!

The point of open source is not to create as many different distributions/spin-offs as possible, but its to contribute BACK to the community as a whole. Instead of releasing an entirly new ISO file, why can't these new packagers release JUST their artwork, or JUST their cool new program, etc.

"Linux is a cancer that attaches itself in an intellectual property sense to everything it touches," - Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft

Its clear, M$ hates Linux(and open source in general) since they cannot compete with a community that is not out to make money. Google supports that community through projects such as Google Summer of Code. M$ may not be able to fight against this community directly, but they sure as hell attack a company such as Google. I agree, Bing was created to decrease Google's revenue as a feeble attempt to "treat" what Ballmer calls a cancer.

Religion and Software?
Jul 2 2010  on group No Ubuntu Users Allowed!

What I truly hate about Ubuntu is that is all those spin offs that keep poping up. I can (sort of) understand making a different install CD for different desktop environments like Kubuntu and XUbuntu, but things like Christian Ubuntu, Sabily Linux and Satanic Ubuntu just do not make sense. I mean they're mixing religion and software... WTF!?!?!?!?!?!
