anytime my mouse hovers over anything highlighted in green and underlined, a bing advertisement/search thing pops up. Here we are working our asses off making themes, wallpapers, and other crap for use on linux/bsd/name your open sourced system here and this website is shoving BING down our throats.

Are you perhaps using Microsoft Internet Explorer with the Accelerators? I actually dusted off my Windows OS (only use for gaming) and ran the haven't-been-run-in-months-except-to-DL-Firefox IE browser, and it has something similar.

But yeah, Bing sux. I like Google at least.

Of course Im not using windows. If you check my profile, I use nothing but debian squeeze, freebsd, and for lack of a better solution for my eeepc 1005hab, ubuntu netbook remix. Which means on my desktops, I am using iceweasel 3.5.9, and I never bothered to check what version of firefox is running on my UNR eeepc1005hab.

It seems to me that Google turns up the best results. What's wrong with collecting data? That's HOW they turn up the best results. What's wrong with recording what people click on to try to output better results? What's wrong with recording what people search for to add it to a cache of suggestions for other users? I don't understand people's hatred of Google just because they collect data. Now the hatred against ChromeOS I can understand. What they're doing with that just doesn't make sense.

Lynyrd Skynyrd! One of the greatest bands of all time!

May end up making a gtk2 theme and openbox theme to go with it, along with a similiar background. Probably in the murrine engine..although there are probably already 50 gtk2 themes and openbox themes that will look nicely with the background Ill be posting soon.

Google is the biggest contributer to open source software. why would Microsoft spend all this money on ads for bing because there trying to divert googles traffic there main source of income and in return gnu/linux open source softwares biggest source of income do you see the real agenda here it has little to do with Google or bing there trying to take out free open source software

"Linux is a cancer that attaches itself in an intellectual property sense to everything it touches," - Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft

Its clear, M$ hates Linux(and open source in general) since they cannot compete with a community that is not out to make money. Google supports that community through projects such as Google Summer of Code. M$ may not be able to fight against this community directly, but they sure as hell attack a company such as Google. I agree, Bing was created to decrease Google's revenue as a feeble attempt to "treat" what Ballmer calls a cancer.

Yeah, we've all known that for a while now. Of course Microsoft is trying to take us out. Their competition is Apple and free software. While Apple is overpriced, they don't have to worry about hard core gamers and hackers switching to Mac. They just have to maintain their monopoly over that. But it's free to switch to Linux. And since the majority of the hard core gamers and hackers that I've met seem to really like Linux, that's a big threat to Microsoft.

As far as I can tell the sole purpose of Bing was to divert traffic from Google. They want a Monopoly on the internet side of things as well as the real world. They've been trying to start a successful search engine for years (with obvious failures). Now that Bing as been more of a success and they've taken over Yahoo! they're getting their way. And since WebOS's are becoming more and more popular these days, I'm really not liking where this is going. It'll be a Windows monopoly all over again.

Tru Dat, Hard core gamers love Wine and its ability to use different DLLs and mount folders as CD drives without external tools(that's what the hardcore gamers I know LOVE about wine). I'm not so pessimistic about the fate of a Web monopoly. Google had their known ad campain that never aired, and I thinks its because Google does not feel that threatened by Bing. I mean I "google" things, I don't "Bing" them. This is not the first time Yahoo and M$ are parterning up, but I does pain me to see Yahoo finally give into Microsoft's demands. I do fear the arrival of IE 9, from what I hear its actually a decent browser and will no doubt use bing as its default search engine... Only time can tell...

Well it's a big deal this time cuz as far as I can tell M$ has totally taken over. My Yahoo account keeps getting deactivated for no apparent reason and I lose all the data I have saved on the account whenever I renew it. Not only that but M$ has bing as well. So if enough people become pissed at Google because of their advertising method and they all switch to either Yahoo or Bing, it may look like there's reasonable spread when M$ is really controlling both. Not to mention all the people who still use Live search or whatever is the IE default home page.
