Re: windoze?
May 5 2004  on poll What desktop/wm did you use before KDE?

Actually explorer.exe does not draw widgets or window borders, it is most comparable to kdesktop/kicker, since it provides the desktop (literally just one giant icon-style list box) and task bar. You can change your "shell=" line in system.ini, and use something other than Explorer (i.e Program Manager, or TK Gooey). Explorer, of course, also provides file browsing (and web browsing by sharing components with iexplore.exe), and therefore could also be compared to Konqueror. What all this really shows is how truly modular Free Software is. It is for this reason, that I wouldn't really consider anything in Windows or desktop or window manager, since the OS kind of does it all through suffocatingly integrated components (i.e trying to truly remove the web browser). I think the "Other" option is intended for some other DE or WM for a Unix-like OS. If you went directly from MS to KDE, then I think "I never used anything else than KDE" is appropriate, since it's a DE/WM poll, not an OS poll.

Re: REQUEST: email gif
Apr 5 2004  on Discussion

GIFs should not be used due to LZW compression patents covering the creation of GIFs. This makes it incompatible with Free Software. Instead, use PNG. It is a patent-free technically superior alternative that supports transparency as well as true-color graphics. If you want animation, try MNG.

Read these for more information:

Apr 2 2004  on news Gnome 2.6 released

Looks like Gnome has menu translucency and window drop shadows now. Also seems to look "cleaner" (although it always seems to anyhow). Now only if Nautilus could come close to the file management of Konqueror...

Re: Installation of Icon
Mar 3 2004  on Discussion

If you actually decide to make the package themeable, and it's all right with the author, please post the modified icon package, as I'm sure a lot of people would find it useful. For instance, check this out --> http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=10920
