Description:

I hate everybody who vote bad only because they are jealous of someones hard work or just voting bad for fun...

someone is hard working several days and then some idiot comes and vote bad?? why? only for fun!!!

vote good if it's good - vote bad if you think it's bad, BUT DON'T VOTE BAD WITH NO REASON!!!

people who upload their creations here are working for free and their only reward is when people give them credits with good vote and good comments

Group goal is to change this site, idea is:
"when someone vote bad he must send msg or comment to autor in which he says why he is voting like that... so autor can improve or fix his creation"

another(maybe better than first)idea is:
"to add sugestion page to every upload and then when someone votes bad he must write his opinion
but there might be authors who dont want this so in page where you edit your upload it should be one checkbox with label "use sugestion page for bad vote""

join if you think same

 Content removed.

by Toma- on: Apr 16 2008

Score 50%

Ive done it. Ive taken my content off e17-stuff.org because of 2 things.
1. The rating system has really gotten to me. I find myself wondering why the percentage for my content goes high then drops magically. If I could disable voting for my content I would and simply measure its success on a downloads per month/week/alltime basis I would be a happier camper. See deviantart for a GOOD rating system.

2a. The upload size of 750kb is ridiculous. There is no way of getting an e17 theme under 750kb without making it look entirely simple and boring. Also, the wallpapers are generally over 1mb aswell so you just cant get e17-stuff to host anything.

2b. Because of this, having googleads on the page that doesnt even have to host my material and as such, has bugger all bandwidth costs from my material seems a little rude. I only found this out a few hours ago and Im still a little mad that they were making money from my content and not even hosting it.

And with that, I bid you all luck in getting this site fixed. I have moved on.

Right, it rocks. But it has its negative side as well. I.e. you have only one preview picture to show.

You are right!

I didn't mean to actually REmove my stuff
from here... I meant move so that it would
be hosted there, ( like I have seen a lot of
the artists here do, the download link here
at gnome-look leads to their deviantart page
where their stuff can be downloaded :)

Usually the 750 KB is enough... but when I
make a pixmaps gtk style and include a
wallpaper to go with the style... I have to
cut down the quality of the wallpaper to
get the package beneath 750 KB...

Other than that, gnome-look is the only page
where linux user feels at home : )
(no windows users here!)

It does take tar.gz, but the site re-pack the file and the user have to unzip after download and then the theme can be installed standardly.

... It doesn't apply for *nix icon themes.
I had to put my own theme in 7z to be accepted. (zip and rar were the only 2 extra possibilities) try it.

It is obvios that many people can unpack it and copy without too much sweat. The problem is that many newbies don't...

They do accept .edj (standard E17 theme) files which are a solid way to distributing a theme in 1 package rather than using tar.gz and the like.
And as for previews, you can just make them 3 images stuck together or make a really nice presentation thats not limited to a tiny 350kb preview image.

It's ridicoulous that gnome-look maybe is making some money for all the user and developers who visit this site. And in exchange it doesn't host my work and give me a voting system like this.

 Deviant art rating

 by falco101 on: Apr 16 2008

Score 50%

I like deviant art a lot but I still have a few issues with it.

1. I like the idea of a rating system (deviantart doesn't really have one)

2. I am one of maybe four KDE artists who post their work there.

3. There aren't enough categories for a full switch over to deviantart.

Out of these reasons (mainly number 2, no audience) I have not completely migrated over. I think that the current set of sites is still salvageable, it just needs to go down for a total overhaul. I think we should still have ratings, just for the artist at least, but having an 'add to favorites' or 'I like' as the dominate rating system that everything can be organized by would be great.

Care to explain why deviantart rating is better than kde-look.org's?
I only joined it recently (to get rid of silly adult filter) so I haven't investigated how "things work" there.

Change, especially in technology, is never easy. Don't give up so soon. I think we just need to come up with final recommendations to the admins based on everyone's comments. You have my support. :-)

Hi everybody.

I have created a new group "improved voting system" to discuss improvements to the voting system which make sense.

I'm looking forward to your suggestions.

Cheers
Frank

I'm happy about this new group and that someone is listening, I post quite a bit here, love the community. Just the other day I posted and no sooner did it appear on the site, that it was voted down, no explanation why. It is quite frustrating and I'm in total agreement with drxnele.

As long as your using Linux, who cares, to be prejudice is to be ignorant.

I can't see that anymore... Today I'll remove my project - NoteFinder from this site because of those crazy idiots that minus project score and don't leave any message. Bye, OpenDesktop.

It's nice to see that there are some great artists in this group... so I know the (admittedly rubbish) stuff i've put up isn't the only content that gets voted down without explanation. Immensely frustrating the way ratings bounce back and forth with no comments whatsoever.

Kudos to the group creator.
