 Branding problems

by IBBoard on: May 5 2008

Score 50%

I decided I should sign up as a group member, since there are too many *buntu desktops/GDMs/splash logos around.

If you don't run *buntu you can find a great looking thumbnail, then find it is ruined by the Ubuntu badge. There are some others that do it as well, but Ubuntu fans are the worst culprits. I gave up with my GDM and just de-branded it.

This is GNOME-look, not *buntu-look. I'd quite happily support a ban on distro-themed items!

Amen brother! There is in fact ubuntu-art.org toward which everything ubuntu-branded should be submitted, but despite this group being the most visible group for two months (happy anniversary btw) people have still not figured that out.

I guess that perhaps the Admins don't like making rules or declining content that is still at least a flavour of Linux, even if it does cut down its potential audience.

Since it seems to be a sister site, it'd be great if any Ubuntu submissions on the main site could be kicked to ubuntu-art.org :)

yeah you are probably right that it would not be in the spirit of linux to limit people on what they are allowed to upload. Personally I find branding very distasteful, though, and too many times it will ruin an otherwise excellent work of art.

In all, I agree 100% that anything ubuntu-related should be moved over to ubuntu-art =)

Wouldnt you all think that No Desktop would mean not running X at all? yet this moron is promoting *box, pekwm , ratpoison and such...those are window managers too. I think we should all comment in that group about how dumb they are.

A windows manager is one part of XFCE, Gnome or KDE (=Desktop Environments). *Box and such are JUST WMs.

For example:
[I] xfce-base/xfwm4
Available versions: 4.4.2 {debug startup-notification xcomposite}
Installed versions: 4.4.2(02:24:59 05/06/08)(-debug -startup-notification -xcomposite)
Homepage: http://www.xfce.org/
Description: Window manager

A more proper name for that group would be No Desktop Environments since no desktop implies that youd rather not run X at all.

With No Desktop the maker of the group implies No Desktop Environment, but just a WM. This'll be the last reply from me to your mindless flaming.

My dear tw1gg:

Do you happen to know what an interprocess API is at least? Have you programmed one?

Do you happen to see that you are confusing and abusing your group members?

I don't bother if some kid tries to get kudos at my expenses without talking at my face or handling any rational thought -it is a pretty cheap old practice of low forms of living indeed.

What is embarrasing is seeing your pathetic behaviour in this community while the people around you understand things that you can't.

Come and discuss your "fresh new ideas" at my group whenever you want. As a man.

Ignorance is the same as an utterly repeated epistemological failure. The problem is ignorants don't realize what epistemological is.

and yes, i am quiet well aware of what an interprocess api is. No, I have not bothered to program one as there are plenty of bored ass people with to much spare time on their hands to do that for me. As to your comment about me abusing and confusing my groups members.....i didnt make anyone join this group....I am not the only one who made a comment that had nothing to do with the groups original topic....you can fuck off and quit trying to blame me for something I am not to be blamed for alone. And as to talking to your face....wtf..youre an editor..i wasnt trying to hide my opinions...i just didnt want to join your group whose name doesnt make sense to me....you see all. And if my behavior is so pathetic then why is it that my group holds the record for comments and probably members as well? No Desktop to me means you strictly stick to console use...if you want to dispute that...change your group name to NO DESKTOP ENVIRONMENTS since that would make plenty more sense. And I can discuss my "fresh new ideas as a man"Min my own group without joining a group that i dont like to begin with. Thanks for your concern about my manhood though. I am quite well endowed.

Im sorry that this group strayed off the beaten path of the original subject....but just because I am the owner of it doesnt make me soley at fault. There are lots of posts in here not put here by me that are way off the subject of NO UBUNTU WALLPAPERS. I will not be blamed for something I am not soley responsible for.
