This is a popular phrase of kde-funs from linux.org.ru (can be translated as 'Gnome is not needs'). :)

It's not helping when you say "+1" to your own comment.

"Mother tongue" means "The tongue and/or linguistic roots you have received as inheritance from your home land".

The direct implication is that you should not try to impress everyone with a beauty but less understandable tongue than English as it is very simple, extended and technical.

By the way, English is neither my mother tongue but it is useful (no matter if I dislike it).

A pack of users from Russian site has landed here. Don't attempt to ask them about anything, it won't help :)

 Icons (and) ...

The next Gnome should have Titanium as default icon theme. Period. ^^,

No, really, I think that Gnome should wide-open its doors to the community so that a dead project (2005 -Topaz- as far as I recall) would be feed with useful contributions.

ie. Simplifying the great but big GTK-widgets-library. Enabling active/inactive icons, providing more useful animated icons, and so forth...
There are too much "Windows TM" reminders stopping Gnome in its advance.

I am not meaning "eye-candy" as I hate that in its current state, I mean "usability" IMHO.

GTK is very customizable -in my own experience-, indeed I don't think it's uglier that KDE/Qt though from it's "simple" perspective, it should have a lot more artistic flexibility and less useless bloats:

- Full Cairo integration [YEAH]
- Math / Rendering lib [COOL]
- Just necessary widgets [COOL]
- A useful Pixbuf engine [YEAH]
- XML/HTML engine [YEAH]

I don't really like WYSYNG as it is known nowadays from a technical aspect. But "What you see is what you get" should be a line of development from now on!!

You just need to put the theme you are using in /usr/share/themes so that it will be applied system wide ;)

Perhaps there should be some option to automate this, I think it's annoying to do it manually all the time :P

A quick hack (which works for me) is to symlink /home/[user]/.themes to /root/.themes .

That way the super user account can pick up your user themes. Your mileage may vary.
