Description:

My Initial Attempt at a custom theme for GNOME.

Remember to select the XNTricity window theme from the "Appearances" dialogue.

Thanks to TheRob for the Slickness Menubar and Metacity theme.

Stupid OpenOffice is still playing the fool with menubars! Managed a mild workaround though.

NOTE: Panel theming is enabled by default. It only supports horizontal panels.If you want to change the background or use vertical panels, then you can modify Panel/gtkrc and change line 18
Quote:

# Change this to the background image for the panel that
# you want. Disable it to use a custom image. NOTE: you will also have
# to disable a bunch of other lines (marked) below.
bg_pixmap[NORMAL] = "Panel/panel-bg-black-24.png"

Then choose a new panel background from the panel properties. There are some in the Panel folder in the theme directory. The gtkrc doesn't properly support translucent panels, but you can use a translucent one using this method.

GTK2 Theme Engines Required:
* Murrine
* Clearlooks
* Pixmap/Pixbuf
* Crux

The icon theme is Gnome Colours - Noble.

The following scrollbars are available:
1. Black Denim (default)
2. Slickness
3. Aero

Comment all but the one you want in the toplevel gtkrc at around line 280.

 very nice theme

I really like your theme. Thanks.

Just a few comments on it.

When using metacity resizing of windows is working fine with the bottom border, but after switching to desktop effects and compiz decorator you cannot resize horizontaly with the mouse.

Maybe it's just a ubuntu hardy issue.

the openoffice workaround works, but it would be nicer to have the dark menu in oo.org, too. Seems like oo.org is not reading the right color for the menu font, right?

Yes, OO has some issues with adhering to menubar/menuitem colours. The behaviour also varies between 2.3 and 2.4. There seems to be a workaround though. Try
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Openoffice+fix+for+slickness+black+theme?content=77415

I'll be integrating this when I get some time.

Compiz does seem to behave strangely with window decorations that don't have a side border, but there are workarounds; You can resize by dragging the window with the middle mouse button and ALT depressed (from anywhere in the window).

Also, I think there is a slickness for emerald somewhere on gnome-look. I believe emerald works fine. Try a search for "slickness".

Hope this helps!

the slickness hack is the same you mentioned in the description.

just to let you know. firefox3 has the same problem. I'm using epiphany anyway, so no real issue for me.

i would say this is a bug in the ff3 and oo.org gtk gui wrapper, will search for a bugreport and open one if there isn't one, yet.

will try emerald, thanks!

I'm using FF3 with the theme. It requires updating the UserChrome.css file as mentioned in the Description.

WOW
I'm a very picky one but this theme amazed me right away. Nice job and thank you!

PS: Could you make the bottom of the metacity theme smaller to maybe 2px?

What's so different between this and Slickness. It looks like Slickness with a slightly transparent metacity and the theme overall being less dark grey.

The only things slickness and this theme have in common are menubar/titlebar and the scrollbars.

It is pretty different, perhaps install the two and compare. I don't really know how to describe it.

Anyways, Slickness cooler :-)

 opacity dock

Hello, how do you get the transparency of the dock without affecting the icons or the tittles?

Open the file gtkrc-2.0/Panel/gtkrc and comment the lines marked. One says bg_pixmap[NORMAL]... and the other has
widget "*Panel*" style "theme-panel-item-editor"

(Add a # at the start of the lines)

Then right-click on the panel, select properties and change the background picture. There are some transparent backgrounds in the gtkrc-2.0/Panel folder in the theme folder.

Sorry. the folder is /path/to/XNTricity/gtk-2.0/Panel and not gtkrc-2.0/Panel
