Description:

This theme is aimed for people who just want a simple, fast and native interface with many color options. It's also designed with new linux users in mind, by providing simple, thorough instructions. A matching set of Icons, Wallpapers, GDM themes and Usplash screens can also be downloaded separately.

There are four color variations (Orange, Blue, Green, Red) and TWO designs; light and dark. You can create even more color-schemes through GNOME's appearance preferences, using the included tango palette for color suggestions!

This theme is designed for Ubuntu Hardy/Gnome 2.22. It will not work in earlier versions.

Important, must read or clowns will eat you:
- Inside the gtkrc files there are extensive line-by-line instructions and tips for customizing most aspects of the theme!

- GNOME-Colors are set as the default icons for the themes. Be sure to download them to get the full experience!

- This theme uses gradient panel backgrounds by default. If you plan to use Transparent/Custom panels, please disable my panels by editing either the gtkrc or panel.rc files like the included instructions tell you to.

- My X-Colors metacity borders are not selected by default, due to their non-conservative nature. You can choose them in gnome's appearance preferences if you wish to use them.

- Some linux apps are not too friendly to dark themes yet. It's up to their developers to improve this. Keep this in mind when using any dark theme.

- If you want root/super user applications to be themed, you must type in a terminal:
sudo ln -s ~/.themes /root

- Feel free to try Murrine-Colors or Nodoka-Colors for alternate takes on this theme.

You could say that. I made my themes like this so people could easily adjust them to their preferences. Although I would recommend that you only change 2 boxes:
for example, if you want a brown color-scheme, you would put a darker brown in Selected Items Background, and a lighter brown in the Tooltips Background. This should take care of everything.

I'm think you'll need a dividing line on the bottom of the metacity. Don't get me wrong, I really like the look you current have!

I think implementing that idea in gnome would be great, but I don't think having a unified metacity theme gets in the way of things. usually, people will intuitively click on the title or use alt + click to move windows. Also, there is always the option of using clearlooks' window borders, which used to be the default until recently.

I just did a lot of bugfixes. I managed to change the color of the dark themes' links in some applications, but other apps like openoffice and liferea don't use these settings. is there someone who can help me fix these?

Firstly, nice themes. Should be the default in Ubuntu IMO; been using them for weeks now, and they've mostly been getting progressively better and better.

Few issues though, a possible bug, and a few matters of personal taste.

Bug: Panel icon sizes are now very bizarre. Not sure if it's just my icon theme (something generated with the Tango Generator under Gutsy several months ago), but with the panel set to 24px, notification tray icons which used to display at full-size now switch to a much smaller size (Rhythmbox, Compiz Tray Icon, and the update tool icon specifically, the others seem fine). This led me to switch to 26px to get my icons "normal" again, which is overall an improvement (user switcher icon no longer cuts off), but then the trash icon goes to a much larger size (all other icons are normal size). Not sure how much of this is the GTK theme and how much is the icon theme, but all I know is it wasn't a "problem" in the version before 0.60 (which I skipped).

Personal taste matter: With the compacting of the theme, you eliminated the padding of menu items. Personally, I loved your theme because it always kept a bit of padding on them, even if only 2px. Is that something you might reconsider? I'll edit if I have to, as I already have to edit each version to enable colored scrollbars anyway, but I don't see much of a space gain by eliminating it. Anyone else feel this way or am I just weird?

Personal taste matter #2: Not sure how I feel about the compacted buttons yet, but is there any chance you could add comments on what you changed in the gtkrc so that people who liked the bigger buttons can change it back?

However any of that goes, thanks for the wonderful themes. I use Clearlooks Human with your orange wallpaper most of the time and love it, and your Clearlooks Wise Dark is the first dark theme I've been able to use for more than a day without itching to switch back, and I found a nice matching wallpaper. http://img.socwall.com/Abstract/General/200810032000-6721.jpg Also, let me know if screenshots would help illustrate the point with the icons, I can provide them if needed.

thanks for commenting, (detailed) feedback will most certainly help the theme.
I've tested the theme in 4 boxes and haven't noticed problems with icons, or at least any that couldn't be fixed by re-downloading, (Sometimes the archive manager or firefox's cache give you outdated versions) and logging out after upgrading the theme.

Since the new version specifies the maximum size for gtk buttons as well, maybe it's not compatible with your generated icons.. try commenting out line # 2, "gtk-icon-sizes = ..." and see if it fixes your problem. This will also return buttons to their original sizes.

With your input, I'll bring back old style menu-items on the light themes. I don't really notice the difference in the dark themes, so those will stay the same.

If I have some time later I'll try to include more instructions and options within the file, make the changes I mentioned above, and try to include wallpapers, GDM, etc in one package.

Commenting out line #2 did indeed fix the panel icon sizes for me at 24px. The trash can icon was still a problem at 26px, but that's almost definitely Tango Generator's fault.

With line 2 commented out the icons appear at the size in the second screenshot with the panel set back down to 24px.

Also remembered another suggestion. On some of the dark themes, the selected text color is much more readable when set to black. I'm not sure which themes that applied to, but it's certainly true with Wise Dark. Sorry if you already changed that, but I haven't used a Dark theme for a few revisions now.

I like it. The only critique I could possibly have is the scrollbar color when colored scrollbars are enabled. It's still saturated like the older theme, and I think might fit in better if it was the more pale menu item color.
