Description:

This theme is aimed for people who just want a simple, fast and native interface with many color options. It's also designed with new linux users in mind, by providing simple, thorough instructions. A matching set of Icons, Wallpapers, GDM themes and Usplash screens can also be downloaded separately.

There are four color variations (Orange, Blue, Green, Red) and TWO designs; light and dark. You can create even more color-schemes through GNOME's appearance preferences, using the included tango palette for color suggestions!

This theme is designed for Ubuntu Hardy/Gnome 2.22. It will not work in earlier versions.

Important, must read or clowns will eat you:
- Inside the gtkrc files there are extensive line-by-line instructions and tips for customizing most aspects of the theme!

- GNOME-Colors are set as the default icons for the themes. Be sure to download them to get the full experience!

- This theme uses gradient panel backgrounds by default. If you plan to use Transparent/Custom panels, please disable my panels by editing either the gtkrc or panel.rc files like the included instructions tell you to.

- My X-Colors metacity borders are not selected by default, due to their non-conservative nature. You can choose them in gnome's appearance preferences if you wish to use them.

- Some linux apps are not too friendly to dark themes yet. It's up to their developers to improve this. Keep this in mind when using any dark theme.

- If you want root/super user applications to be themed, you must type in a terminal:
sudo ln -s ~/.themes /root

- Feel free to try Murrine-Colors or Nodoka-Colors for alternate takes on this theme.

Now the titlebar is extremely strident. To much orange... I've been using this theme since the beginning... Unfortunatelly i've overwritten the previous version without thinkin' twice (because i really like this theme). Did u remember the previous values from the xml file? Or there is something i can do about it... Thx

OK, Sorry to sound like a rook on this one....

All of my clear looks themes are basic blue title bar with black and white.

I have libglib, libpango, libgtk2 and libcairo2 installed. Am I missing something?

You are probably selecting Clearlooks instead of my theme, To get the right one, you just have to select the one called Clearlooks human after you've installed it.

Nope, that's not it. It's not just your theme, no theme that is supposed to be clear or semi-transparent is on any of my eight systems. I'm guessin there's a module or library that isn't installed by default.

Nope, that's not it. It's not just your theme...none of the "clear" themes seem to work on any of my systems. I'm guessing there's a module or library that isn't installed by default.

what linux distro are you using? the Clearlooks engine should be installed by default on most GNOME-based distros. I think the package for ubuntu is gtk2-engines, you can see if you have that installed or you can compile the engine from source.

I'm using debian lenny. Most of the boxes are x86, but one is AMD 64.


I do have the GTK2 themes installed. The clear ones just don't work. Kinda funny, I thought they were all just really lame themes lol

I think I figured out the problem. Looks like installing the GTK engines has a problem using apt-get (or synaptic or whatever). I downloaded the source and recompiled. The theme looks great.

Are the title bars supposed to be transparent?

I'm glad you found a fix! btw, the theme doesn't contain any title bars, the metatheme just points to clearlooks' metacity. The active titlebar background is always a bit darker than the selected background (orange,green,blue,etc) and any transparencies are taken from your gtk-window-decorator settings.

If you want to use fully transparent borders/titlebars, you need to use an emerald theme and compiz fusion.

Very nice clean theme, clearlooks really is the one true theme engine :-). Good job, and dark themes are really hard to get right, but I think you did a good job with yours. Have you thought of submitting your themes for the hardy theme proposal? It may not be super shiny, but it's usable and still stays true to the color scheme to a degree (without being a giant brown and orange swirl).

Thanks for commenting on the theme, I came up with it as a way for my technologically-challenged friends to get a better looking ubuntu theme without them having to change their icons, splash screen, etc, to match it. I haven't really thought of submitting it for proposal, since i lack the know-how to add the kind of polish necessary for that.

I don't plan to release a blue version as of now, since I package so many versions already that I wouldn't want to confuse anyone by adding more. Also, there is the original Clearlooks theme. Anyway, my theme is made so that you could easily change its colors by editing two or three lines in the file and changing the hue of the menu item image. Anyone is encouraged to change, modify, or redistribute my theme as they see fit.
