Description:

this theme is the default in
Ubuntu Ultimate 1.8 ,info and download:
http://ultimateedition.info/Ultimate_Edition_1.8/

A very very overglossed theme I made....
I was unsure if I wanted to release it but
I remembered some people liking my other
themes...... Whatever , go here to fix
any browser font problems (for most browsers):
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Darkfix+%28+easy+fix+for+browsers+%29?content=74504
it works like a charm and is very easy to use!
Big thanks to code933k for making it!

package contains gtk and metacity themes
(controls and window borders)

oh, and you can tweak the colors using
gnome theme manager.

!!!!IMPORTANT!!!!!

To install:
1.Download the file to your desktop
2.Right click the file and select extract here
3.open a terminal and run this command:
sudo cp -r $HOME/Desktop/Overglossed /usr/share/themes

4.Open the theme manager, you can now
see the Overglossed theme as a theme,
when you click on it , it suggests
taners amazing wallpaper he made for this theme!!
click apply to apply the wallpaper!

the icon theme it suggests is this one:

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/black-white+2+Style?content=72619

any problems with the install let me know!!!!

Any suggestions and feedback very welcome!

for the metacity code I used the codebase

of scaled black murrina made by twigsby.
everything else made by me from scratch.

HUGE thanks to artist taner for is exceptionally
beautiful artwork wallpaper!!!!

Changelog:

0.2 Changed the menubar highlight and re-made the menues (now we have overglassy menues to ;D)

0.3 You can now have white input boxes
(as shown on screenshot 3) cause I changed
some color inheritance (combobox now has
different inhertitance and cursor in
box inherits text color).

0.4 Now comes as a theme, Included taners
amazing wallpaper he provided for this theme!!!

04.08.2008 Taner made a new wallpaper,
It is absolutely fantastic! Uploaded with
that one and changed screenshots.
a HUGE thank you again Taner! You are
the best!

Hello Robert,
I would love to know how to make the semi-transparent panels as yours. Can you teach me the trick please?

Thanks

if you use compiz then:

in ccsm - general options - opacity

(name=gnome-panel | type=Menu | PopupMenu | DropdownMenu)

and transparency = 80

in ccsm - blur - alpha blur windows

(name=gnome-panel | name=usp | type=Menu | PopupMenu | DropdownMenu)

blur = gaussian
alpha blur = true (checked)

hope this helps!

I am sorry Rob I meant the panel bars. In the cssm i have already set in opacity (type=Menu | PopupMenu | DropdownMenu) 83, so the drop-down menu are already semitransparent. I am using slickness.

how do you get the (what appears to be) glowing border around the windows, and popup menus and etc? Is it something to do with the background? Also, awesome awesome awesome theme, and can you give me an actual link to the background, cuz I said to install it, and it went back to the default

Thanks again for your compliments!

the glow effect is cause of the emerald theme:

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/download.php?content=74813&id=2&tan=35050494

if you followed the install instructions
it should apply the wallpaper, if you installed
with theme manager then you have to manually
load it from
$HOME/.themes/Overglossed/overglossed.jpg

hope this helps!

Wow! This is a really cool theme. I just have one request: do you think you'd be able to make another version that replaced the blue parts with red? I'm planning on setting up a cool dark+red theme that uses my logo (http://ryanlesterstore.googlepages.com/rllogo.png) as the USplash or Splasy theme and wallpaper with cool dark+red GTK and Metacity themes, and your theme seems like if it used red, it would go perfectly with my idea.

Thanks!

It's actually already done by dictionary,
get it here:

PS, great logo! and the theme will go perfectly
with it since he used the exact same red!

Hi. I'm in the process of modifying the theme to my tastes. Here's what it looks like so far: http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/7315/44552515ft2.png

Anyways, I was just wondering if you would be able to help me do something. I'm not familiar with editing gtkrc files, and even after replacing the images in the tab folder, I can't get the tabs to be rounded, so do you think you'd be able to help me? Here's the current version of the theme: http://ryanlesterstore.googlepages.com/RYANLESTER.tar.gz

Looks cool!

Well are you sure you have the tabs named
correctly?

Then one other thing you should check in
the code/gtkrc is how much space on the
borders is allocated and not stretched...
Look at the panel button and you see
what I mean. just check in the pixmaps
how much should be allocated (more rounding
will require more borders).

the code for borders looks like this:

example

border = { 4 , 4 , 6 , 6}

that means that 4 pixels is allocated
on the left, 4 on the right , 6 on top
and 6 on bottom.....

btw, The panel settings are in the
panel.rc file... look there for changing
panel settings.

Hope this helps!

Cool, thanks. I actually just changed all the values to 0 (the Mac4Lin GTK theme, which I took a lot of images from and altered, including tabs, had it like that), and it's not exactly what I was going for, but I guess it's still pretty slick: http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/9302/tabztt6.png

btw I'll be making a page for this theme, a USplash or Splashy theme I'll be making, and a GDM theme I'll be making soon.

 Probelm with Skins

by ProCoder on: Apr 27 2008

First of all, your Theme is great! Well done!

I use your suggestion for the icon theme as written above and use Obsidian as cursor theme.

I have fixed the form fault also, with editing the .css file in Firefox.

But I have a problem with OpenOffice2, when I start it with the standard human theme of Ubuntu, everything works fine, but with Overglossed, I cannot read anything, and I have no idea what went wrong.

I just installed Overglossed in ~/.themes/ and not in the shared folder, but icons, and cursor theme there, no problem, but I have no idea what to do with the OpenOffice problem, I have not tested any other application yet, because this system is freshly installed. I have uploaded a screenshot,so maybe someone is able to help me:

With Human Theme: http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/6376/screenshot1ug7.png
With Overglossed Theme: http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/5865/screenshot2ff2.png
