 Nice colors but...

The color theme choosed is mostly great. Black for window borders, menubar and others, good choice, and nice buttons. But the light brown/orange (it's sort of intermediate tint in face) used for the windows background and "url bar", I can't help it, I doesn't like it at all. Althrough I'm used to non-standard color-schemes, mostly black/dark blue/indigo, I feel something is wrong with these colors.
I know part of Ubuntu's signature is to use such colors (and one of my first goal after Ubuntu's installation is change completely the theme ^^), but here, they simply doesn't fit together !
...
Uh oh, there... what am I seeing ? Some yellow folders cloned from some "other operating system" -koff-, and just slightly "hue/saturation"-ed ? Come on, be serious... Any distro of linux IS NOT intended to look like other os family, I mean Apple products and Windows especially. So I will ever prefer the "Humility" icon set from Gutsy among the default and Ubuntu-specific ones.
So... here is what I could say about it. Take this as a personnal opinion from a skin-maniac ;)

thanks for your comment!

Yeah how surely you have noticed it's a 0.9 version so I'm stil developing it. Goals for the 1.0 release are:
*find a new icon set
*create/edit a GDM theme
*change the buttons in the emerald theme
*modify the palette so non-selected text will become visible (now the color is the same for text and windows background)

If someone wants to give a hand it would be great!!!

well, not to toot my my own horn as well but...

Elementary Icons is in a decent state, and it has a pretty fair rating, so I think I'm doing pretty good

 When???

When are Ubuntu people going to finally get off the Orange / Brown / dark theming mentality? Dark brown swirly wallpaper; bright garish orange icons... where does it end? It's a "love it" or "hate it" proposition. I for one, hate it! A more pleasing compromise is in order. If your theme should become the Hardy standard, it will be the first thing to go upon booting the system.

What's wrong with the orange / black?

Better the obsolete blue / white ~ green / blue?

It seems to me that your contributions are all on the green style Mint ..

Gnome-look is full of themes, choose what you prefer, without pontificate on Ubuntu's users ..

People with "earthy" attitudes find it appealing. As pointed out, people can change the look totally straight after installation. If Ubuntu changed their colours totally, it's a fair bet many people wouldn't like that either. So I guess it really comes under the banner of "get over it".

This is like a gimpy Vista theme. Please, why does everyone want to copy vista glossy black crap...it looks like the worst color combination ever with the brown anyways. Sorry...

Sorry if my theme hurted your sensibility.. I didn't intend to ;-P

However how surely you've noticed the guidelines for Hardy Heron's artwork are of black/brown/orange colours, so it'll be something similar to my theme i guess..

That makes days I've been trying to improve your theme, with small operations with the screenshots. Maybe you shoud try what some shemes like these give inside a real Linux GTK theme:

Dark one:

Window borders: black, glossy (sorry for "vista-allergic" people here...)
Toolbar background: Maybe a green/yellow tint, not too saturated should do. Just try it, I don't really know for this one.
Window background: Mmmh, many choices for this one. Try with a mix of grey and yellow/orange (near #FFCC00, less bright)
Text: maroon, quite black
Highlighted text: BG: dark grey FG:orange
Scrollbars: black with gloss, tint with a very small amount of blue.

Bright one:
Window borders: same as existing Human Theme, maybe the hue factor could be nearer from yellow than maroon.
Toolbar background: black, with a little amount of green
Toolbar text: bright yellow
Window background: pastel tint, maroon/orange.
Text: black or deep grey.
Highlighted text: BG: very deep red, FG: bright orange
Scrollbars: I don't really know, I am thinking about twilight/sunset colors, but not too bright, they mustn't be aggressive to keep eyes focused on the main part.

Thanks for this, next days I'll be working on this, maybe creating a new different theme from Hardy Theme.

The GDM and the Wallpaper are awesome. (notice that I add a GDM Theme based on Glossy Human too!)

Before Installing, you have to untar the Hardy-Mariux.tgz file, then into the Hardy -Mariux Directory you'll find a readme about installation. ;-)

i followed that and it still didnt work. In both gutsy and hardy there is no app called theme in system-> prefs, and the app that is there "Appearance" can't find a usable file.

After you put Hardy-Mariux in your home/.themes dir, open

"Appearance"-> Theme -> Customize-> Controls

then select "Hardy". Your GTK theme is now ready.
