Description:

This is a very very black modification of
my slickness theme.
I made it cause someone here at gnome-look
asked if I could.

New feature since version 0.3:
You can now choose colors using gnome
theme manager.
It is my very first try at something like this so it might not work exactly as planned.

Feedback of any kind is always welcome :D

To fix browser problems go here:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Darkfix+%28+easy+fix+for+browsers+%29?content=74504

that fix will fix all your browser problems :)

A HUGE thanks to code933k for making it!!

!!!IMPORTANT!!!

To install:
1.Download the file to your desktop
2.Right click the file and select extract here
3.open a terminal and run these commands:
first:
sudo cp -r $HOME/Desktop/SlicknesS-black /usr/share/themes
second:
sudo chmod 777 /usr/share/themes/SlicknesS-black/Slickness-black.jpg

4.Open the theme manager, you can now
see the SlicknesS-black theme as a theme,
when you click on it , it suggests
taners amazing wallpaper he made for this theme!!
click apply to apply the wallpaper!

the icon theme it suggests is this one:

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/black-white+2+Style?content=72619

any problems with the install let me know!!!!

One REALLY HUGE thank you to artist Taner
for his fantastic wallpaper!

Gerva has made a fix that fixes openoffice problems! :

Thanks Gerva!

There still seems to be some disabled fonts
that have the irritating shadow...
I will try to fix it but I don't know how.

Any chance of making an Emerald version of the window border?

It wouldn't be an issue, except the upper-right of the windows has this light/dark swoop thing going that looks like it "leads" to the title bar. Without that, it seems mismatched.

Now, me, I like being able to choose my border because some (ahem... DarkerIce...) look REALLY bad without the matching Emerald/Metacity theme, but I also don't want it because I really, really like the Emerald themes.

I guess what I'm saying is, consider doing something else so there isn't that swoop thingy. If you look it over and decide it looks best with it, keep it, but it's something to think about.

Also, I want to know who's down-voting this. No offense to some themes (Blue Junior, Darker Theme) but this thing's the best dark theme on the site and I don't get how it's getting knocked down.

I love dark themes, and this theme is amazing. It is almost perfect for my setup. Thank you for making it and I hope you continue to work on it. I second a theme for emerald to go with this gtk theme. That would make my desktop complete. Thanks!

Thank you for your kind words someguydude!!
And craigyjack also!

I have now created a emerald version, I just
uploaded it here.
I think for the next version
of this theme I include a possibility of having
a different menubar so that it plays nicer
with emerald themes :)

However I think the menubar/titlebar is
what gives this theme a little bit of
personality so I will probably not remove
it totally thou :)

Thanks for the idea!

Definitely an interesting idea.

I hate to sound like a brown-noser, but honestly I'm not sure what I'd be wanting in the next theme. This one nails my needs so much that I can't think what would be an improvement, at least such a vast change that would happen in the form of a whole new theme.

By way of illustration, I have here a screenshot of this paired with its Emerald theme (and by the by I agree it works best with the swoop), along with Black and White 2 Gloss for the icons, with an AWN bar, Cairo Clock's SimpleClock theme, and a similarly black and white type wallpaper. I use the Obsidian cursor but that doesn't show up in a screenshot.

http://img341.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot28ie3.png

The unity of it all is just phenomenal and is exactly what I've been searching for. I'd been using an OSX ripoff because, while I much prefer dark themes, it's the unity that I need or else I start to go crazy.

nice. i have similiar setup - i would recommend the awn-curves add-on (with black theme) for you avant window navigator. I use it and i think you would like it, its sleek glossy and black to fit right with your theme - check it out http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=572019

You know, I have the goofiest problem with AWN Curves: every time I use it, my rightmost icon is hopped up about a half inch any time the bar expands/contracts, and doesn't go down again until I mouse over it.

As small of an issue as that sounds, it's currently enough to keep me from using it. :P

Sorry, I don't like the new look of the titlebar, so im using a custom version of it.
I have the old "spaced" buttons and now the close button is red when is not focused, and when is focused it has the original red glow.
Take a look and try it. ;)

Buttons....

A user here asked me to do the buttons
the way they are now, if you like the old
buttons with space, you can use the standard
SlicknesS metacity theme (it is exactly the
same as black) since I haven't changed the
buttons there and I don't think I am
going to :)

By the way...

I made a emerald version of it:

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/SlicknesS+Emerald?content=73972

It has the same buttons (without space)
but there you can see why I made it that
way. Feel free to try it out and tell me
what you think (if you use emerald that is)

Just because a user asked you to remove the space between the metacity buttons doesn't mean you have to do it. You're the author of your theme and ultimately you are the one who decides. You don't have to cater to one user.

Thanks(!!),, yes I know I am the author :D

The thing is... when I started making this
theme, I wanted the buttons to be the way
they are now but I realized I am not gonna
be able to make that fly using metacity so
the buttons had a space, then when I made the
emerald theme I noticed that emerald is
capable of this... so now I tried to make
metacity too look like that (as requested) and it doesn't
, so if enough people want me to revert back
to the old ones it's just a few clicks...
