X11 Mouse Theme

Description:

My personal theme based on a well known version of an OS. Looks like the default X11 theme with a smooth drop shadow. The color wheel makes it fit nicely into more colorful themes while maintaining a serious look.

All cursors were hand painted using FireWorks and ImageMagick. Source png files and a generation script are included.

This is the kind of cursor theme I like! I'm a fan of mostly snow-white widgets, and while they look nice, white cursors are a pain to quickly spot on screen. And the default black X core cursor is a little unsightly. I really like the white border around these! It makes the cursor look like it's on a layer above everything else.

My wife just looked at me an said "f**k you" when I showed her KDE with the same icon theme as her precious OSX laptop.

This icon cursor is really cool. I would have one request though. The ability to specify size. With my old eyes I'd like to make them about 50% bigger then they are now. But this is cool don't get me wrong. :)

Very good job on this. It is exactly what I was looking for. A small, black cursor like the original X one, with a shadow and cool animations. Thanks!

Extract to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/icons or ~/.icons
and then modify /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/icons/default/index.theme or ~/.icons/default/index.theme to point to the jaguarx directory... that's it.

Hmz... i must be a total ubernoob :-(

I extracted it to the directory you told in previous comment. But there is no index.theme file... searched for it, and found none... dunno what to do next, since i'm pretty new to linux.

Any tips that might help me to install this really nice looking pointerset would be appreciated !

I'm using Mandrake 9.1... maybe this can help ?

Greetz,

McBain

1. Unpack the archive using 'tar xvfj 6679-jaguarx.tar.bz2'
1. Move the jaguarx folder into ~/.icons/ (Create the '.icons' folder if you do not have it)
2. Create a file with the name 'index.theme' containing these two lines of text:

[Icon Theme]
Inherits=jaguarx

and move it to ~/.icons/default/ (Create the 'default' folder if you do not have it)
3. Relogin and enjoy!

Oh yeah, these cursors will ONLY work with XFree 4.3 or newer.

To figure out what version you have try this in a terminal:

grep Version /var/log/X*.log

On my machine it will output:

XFree86 Version 4.3.0 (Debian 4.3.0-0ds4 20030416150820 dstone@aedificator)
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 6.6
(II) RADEON(0): EDID Version: 1.2

decompress,
change into the new folder "jaguarx" and
execute "./make.sh".
Copy the content of the "cursors" - folder into "~/.icons/default/cursors" in your home-directory
(If you don't have this folder, just make it. Do not forget the leading '.' )
Restart KDE. That's all.
Good luck,
george

These are VERY nice cursors. But they are a tad small especially on my Laptop, if you could make a 50% larger set, that would be cool.

I run a desktop at 1024x768 and many of the icons are a little small. Another few sets at 25% and 50% bigger would be awesome!
