Description:

so here is another improved version of TuxCursor.

i decided to make a completely new upload because the look of tux has changed.
the face is now more like the original tux, as requested.

but personally i prefer the agressive look of tux in the original cursor.

on the other side this cursor is even cuter...
decide on your own ;)

for instructions, reasons and credits take a look at the other tuxcursor.

*additional info*
RESIZING FINALLY WORKS!
some users asked about simple resizing.
i finally found a way to do it easy.

create an '.Xdefaults' file in your home directory and add the following lines:

-------
Xcursor.size: 32
Xcursor.theme: tuxcursor
-------

Availiable Sizes: 32 (small), 48 (medium), 64 (big, but max. detail)

Be sure to check to cool animated hourglass i redid for the waitcursor!
Tux is in the hourglass and gets some Spinning :) just cool

Changelog:

0.4: finally resizeable!
added animated hourglass ; )
licensed under the GPL
thanks to Ralf Nolden (kde.org) for
license advice.
0.3: made the face cuter
0.2: added dropshadows
0.1: initial release

License:
licensed under the GPL
see:http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html
for more info.

Dont worry, its still free.
GPL license is just that M$ doesnt steal the ideas ; )

 Wait Cursor

by echobucket on: Mar 12 2003

Score 50%

I think the wait cursor should have Tux hanging on to a stop watch with spining hands, there's not enough activity on the wait cursor that's being used here, the pointer turns Red and Tux stops wiggling, but I think a wait cursor should make me think "wait"... the current one doesn't really do that.

Other than that, great theme!

i will keep the idea in mind.
thanks for the improvement comment.
but a redesign is always difficult because i have to try whats possible and what looks best.

but i will redo the wait cursor.

Is there any way to use these cursors in Windows XP or W2K ???

I've downloaded & extracted (with a downloaded utility), but can't seem to display them with ANYTHING.

Any way to identify & convert to .cur and .ani files????

you dont really want a penguin flying around on your W2k or XP ; )

so i hardcoded a copy protection in the cursor that it isnt possible to use them on Micro$ofts OS ; )

just a joke, hehe.
i will release the source.png files in some time so you can "port" it to any OS with animated cursor support.

Very Very Cute.

I mean really cute.

I suppose they could be "Hello Kitty"; that would be cuter.

My wife loves them, so they'll be staying. ;)

Actually, we're using the "shadow" slightly less cute version--Where Tux shows his teeth out of the side of his mouth. I guess if you're going to acknowledge "teeth", you can't really call it a beak anymore.

Thanks!

Oh, and BTW, they're cute.

I like the "cute" cursors even more than the original set. Thank you so much for all the time you spent on these. It is appreciated!

Anybody around who knows how to get it run under Mandrake 9.1rc2 ? I downloaded tuxcursor
and followed the instruction. But there is no
directory "icons" in /usr/lib/X11 - if I create one my Xserver crashes.

Any suggestions ?

Looking forward for any idea that helps,

Yours sincerely

Michael Bischof

It's /usr/share/icons in Mandrake, and I think now it has become the standard directory for cursors.

Hi,
finally it worked. But it deviates from your schedule !
I had to build a .icon-directory in my /home/user - directory first and then I had to edit the /etc/X11/xdm/Xresources file and add
a line at the end:
Xcursor.theme:tuxcursor

Before doing that nothing showed up at all. My installation is Mandrake 9.1rc2. The cursor looks really funny and great. But it is, in frank language, a great gag for kids. It steals too much visual attention from the main work schedule ;-)

Thanks for your great work - go on with it !

Yours sincerely

i guess mandrake 9.1rc2 already comes with
xfree 4.3, right? if you are not sure check your xfree version.

also try different paths like:
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/icons/
or
/usr/X11/lib/X11/icons/
you should find the icons directory somewhere.

if all fails you can still install in your home directory as single user.
create a folder named '.icons' in your home directory.
copy the tuxcusor and the default directory in the .icons directory.
and check the index.theme in /default if it inherits tuxcursor.

i hope one of the methods works for you :)

Those are not the standard directories for Mandrake. It's /usr/share/icons instead.

U.
