Please continue with this work it looks so cool. :)

And Clearlooks or Gilouche based theme would be even better. IMO

 So slow!

yes in development releases i've added dynamic thinks in murrine (with options) but the result was an incredible SLOWDOWN!

I'm thinking that it would be better to wait further cairo versions and then we can cooperate to add your works in the official murrine branch! (with fair credits obviusly)

Releasing a slow engine will defect user experience rather than improve it.

if you try a benchmark you'll see it is slower than pixmap themes...

this is due to cairo slowness.
I had got same idea of him one month ago, but i didn't merge it into murrine since it drops down the performances (i.e. buttons are 40% slower in dyndyn)

with new releases of cairo i will probably add these things... so i think it would be better to cooperate me with him and add new "murrine options".

Maybe call the new murrine themes like MurrinaDynCandy etc...

I wouldn't mind cooperating with you.

How did you check it was slower?
actually, most of the randomizing is done only once. the buttons cache the effects so these would be calculated only once.

Could it be that the gradients I added are the cause of the slowness?

cairo antialiasing is the problem, not the random code.

hey.

here are my benchmarks:
Murrine:
Total time: 23.37
Dyndyn:
Total time: 28.47

so I don't know why it was slow for you, it seems quite ok here.

anyway, I don't think it is because of the random code. I use a Hashtable for storing the stripes for each button, so it will happen only once. drawing the stripes shouldn't also take so much time.

I guess it's because of the highlights.

these benchmark results may be differing due to cairo and/or gtk versions. under edgy, default test with gtkperf gave

Total time: 22.76

while clearlooks scored:

Total time: 27.82

so, not that slow :)
