Yet another Linux Distro Timeline

I was so impressed by the other two timelines that I decided to build on the fine work that had proceeded me.

ps: If anyone is interested in a hard copy of this, send me an e-mail. Litho is too expensive, but I might be able to get an A1 digital print done at a not too unreasonable cost if I order 50 copies.

* Archlinux is based on Crux
* for Slackware line, the correct name is « Vector » not Victor ;) http://vectorlinux.com/

Arch Linux is descended from Crux. Judd once summarized the differences:

"I used Crux before starting Arch. Arch started out as Crux, pretty much. Then I wrote pacman and makepkg to replace my bash pseudo packaging scripts (I built Arch as an LFS system to begin). So the two are completely separate distros, but technically, they're almost the same. We have dependency support (officially) for example, although Crux has a community that provides other features. CLC's prt-get will do rudimentary dependency logic. Crux gets to ignore lots of problems we have too, since it's a very minimalistic package set, basically what Per uses and nothing else."

First of all, great work!

But, afaik, Edubuntu is a direct descendant of Ubuntu, and not via Kubuntu. Same goes for Xubuntu not being based on Edubuntu, aifaik. Although it might be possible Xubuntu is based on Kubuntu, or at least inspired by Kubuntu.

In the beginning the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.

µLinux + LoopLinux?

In my youth I worked a lot with a distribution called muLinux (µLinux), a two-floppy distribution with X. Later I had a chance to install LoopLinux (a slimmed down RedHat dist) before I finally bought a computer upon which I could install RedHat 5.2. (Later on I fell in love with SuSE and bough it's 7.3 and I have been faithfull to that cute lizard ever since...)

I'd really love to see those two darlings of mine in the timeline! :)
