Description:

I got a little bored with my themes, so I decided to make use of some experiments I still had floating around and try to turn it into a complete theme. Be warned, it's a bit of a mess and not quite finished, but I guess it's usable.

Aside from the mirage engine (which is not a complete engine, but only provides certain elements), you will also need ubuntulooks and murrine to use the included themes. I'll likely drop the murrine dependency at some point but ubuntulooks will stay, since I see no point in duplicating half of the code. With more and more cairo engines coming out, I believe this kind of code sharing makes a lot of sense.

Hm, I don't like that very much and I don't think it would look good on a light background. But I am thinking about adding a new button style, just need something really nice. Too fancy button styles rarely look good in Gtk themes, since they appear a _lot_ on the screen (and there is no separation between "pushbuttons" and normal buttons as on OS X).

I agree... specially if we take nautilus file manager, which uses toggle buttons in pathbar...(This should be replaced by a nice widget, just my opinion.. :-) )..

BTW: Any idea how to change the color of the scroll bar....

Cool Theme. But my firefox doesn't like your menu styles. i get stupid errors :(

Same applies for other XUL applications like thunderbird.

Not yet, but it will be in the next release. Just out of curiousity (since everybody seems to be requesting this), what color would you all want to change the scrollbar to?

following the trend with that style colored slider, I'd say either what the menubar (bg[SELECTED]) is, or the titlebar color.

My taste is bit different (Assume this is technically possible). I like to have the same color as buttons to the scroll bar including the prelight effect with same prelight color.

* Mirage-NORMAL uses the lighter normal background color of your gtk theme.
* Mirage-SELECTED uses the bg selected color in the gtk theme and if your gtk theme specifies a metacity color to use, as the mirage gtk themes do, it will use that color.

Great work! :) I just think that the glass effect on the NORMAL version is too strong for the bright color, so it doesn't look believable. I'd like it better as it is on the inactive windows from the SELECTED version. Also I think the button prelight effect should be more subtile on unfocused windows (keeping them white, just adding saturation).

update:
I have lightened the highlight image and added to the inactive prelight button though.

I didn't want to lighten the highlight because now it doesn't match the menubar gradient, however the fact that it is on the light bg and caused the titlebar to go flat drove me nuts! Still does it, but not as quite bad.

If I knew where the engine was going I'd know better what to do. You mentioned keeping the ubuntulooks depends, but is that for the buttons?
I could lessen the glass effect on the metacity buttons and titlebar (smoothing it out) and ditch the highlight but....
then there's another gradient/glass on the scrollbar....

There isn't anything in particular from ubuntulooks that I want to keep, I just want to keep the dependency so I don't have to re-implement everything. Of course if it would turn out at some point that ubuntulook isn't used anymore, I would remove the dep.

So I wouldn't mind doing a new button design, but only if I see a great mockup or have an inspiration for something that I like better than the current ubuntulooks design.

I think the buttons should definitely keep their glass effect. In general, maybe a good rule of thumb would be to use the glass effect only for dark elements or at least to keep it almost invisible on light elements (similar to the ubuntulooks buttons).

I'm very open to suggestions (especially mockups). My main intention for Mirage is for it to be a fun and unique theme and to invite experimentation.
