Description:

GTK theme *and* engine intended to make GTK applications have a similar look
to the Keramik KDE style.

The theme, and pixmaps within, are based upon the alpha release of Keramik_GTK
by Goamaus. However, most pixmaps have been re-created, and/or modified.

Geramik requires QtPixmap >=0.26 (QtPixmap is no longer included in the Geramik archive. Get QtPixmap from http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=7043)

Screenshot 2 is of Mandrake's diskdrake - showing the recolouring of buttons.

To install:

tar zxvf Geramik-0.23.tar.gz
cd Geramik-0.23
./configure
make
make install (as root)

...then copy /usr/share/themes/Geramik/gtk/gtkrc to either /etc/gtk/gtkrc or ~/.gtkrc

...or for GTK2, copy
/usr/share/themes/Geramik/gtk-2.0/gtkrc to either /etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc or ~/.gtkrc-2.0

Changelog:

0.27
----
1. Fix ThinGeramik horizontal scrollbar thumb.

0.26
----
1. Add "ThinGeramik" - GTK equivalent of ThinKeramik. This is the 1st version,
so will probably have some errors. Note: Menus in GTK2 apps will be the window
colour - can't figure out how to make this different!

(NOTE: *Requires* QtPixmap >= 0.26)

0.25... See "ChangeLog" in archive for previous entries...

 Menu background?

by CatBus on: Dec 16 2002

Is there any possibility of having the background colors for menus and context menus match the KDE color scheme? The plain gray is the last difference that really stands out for me. Thanks for the excellent work, BTW.

I probably wasn't specific enough. I'm using GTK1/2 apps and the menus look a little less "bright" than the KDE 3.0x menus. Not really sure if this is because Geramik is designed for KDE 3.1, if it's a bug, or if it's just my eyes. But I swear they look drab in comparison.

 Menu colours...

by CraigD on: Dec 16 2002

For GTK1 apps they should match (the colour used is a lighter version of the background colour). But for GTK2 the menu colour will be darker - it'll be the same as the background colour. I've tried to fix this, but found no way to do this yet. And I thouhgt that the match was close enough that it didn't really matter.

Not a big deal. Mostly I'm glad to have confirmation that it isn't just my imagination. The fact that it's the *only* thing I notice and that it's such a small thing should be taken as a huge compliment. You've done some wonderful work.

 Xft & GTK1

AFAIK, GTK1.x doesn't support XFt (and henve AA'ed fonts). There is a hack of GTK1 somewhere that adds support for Xft - but I'm not sure how good/stable this is. Your best bet is just to wait for all apps to be ported to GTK2 (its 1000000% better than GTK1)

Use GIMP 1.3.10 (Gtk2)

It's beta, but it's already pretty stable (hasn't crashed on my system since the installation) and the new features + AA-ed fonts + the improved Gtk (2) + colored icons are all worth it :)

The menu backgrounds really made a difference for this theme, it's really made a difference.

It's those little corner of your eye things that make the theme so indistinguishable at this point, it's exceptional. :)

.18 rocks. I really hope some big distros like SuSe will include it, it would make KDE/GNOME ook more consistent. Great job on this!

 Why doesn't it work.

Using Mandrake 9.0

Geramik works fine in Gimp 1.2, and most gtk 1.x apps.

However it doesn't show up in gtk 2.0 apps such as gFTP and PAN when running KDE 3.x.

If I switch to GNOME instead of KDE3 these apps show the Geramik theme just fine, so I know the configuration is ok.

It seems like one of the libs is not loading. Anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks.

 Mandrake 9.0...

...well I'm using this, and it works fine for me.

Which versions are you having trouble with? Did you copy /usr/share/themes/Geramik/gtk-2.0/gtkrc to ~/.gtkrc-2.0 ?

Yes as I mentioned it works FINE with GNOME but not KDE3 with GTK2 applications.

The ~/.gtkrc-2.0 works just fine under GNOME.

It doesn't work under KDE3 for apps such as gFTP and PAN, etc.

Those same apps show the them when I load up GNOME instead.

So it's a LIB problem. But which one and how to fix?

Thanks.
