Description:

GTK theme *and* engine intended to make GTK applications have a similar look
to the Keramik KDE style.

The theme, and pixmaps within, are based upon the alpha release of Keramik_GTK
by Goamaus. However, most pixmaps have been re-created, and/or modified.

Geramik requires QtPixmap >=0.26 (QtPixmap is no longer included in the Geramik archive. Get QtPixmap from http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=7043)

Screenshot 2 is of Mandrake's diskdrake - showing the recolouring of buttons.

To install:

tar zxvf Geramik-0.23.tar.gz
cd Geramik-0.23
./configure
make
make install (as root)

...then copy /usr/share/themes/Geramik/gtk/gtkrc to either /etc/gtk/gtkrc or ~/.gtkrc

...or for GTK2, copy
/usr/share/themes/Geramik/gtk-2.0/gtkrc to either /etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc or ~/.gtkrc-2.0

Changelog:

0.27
----
1. Fix ThinGeramik horizontal scrollbar thumb.

0.26
----
1. Add "ThinGeramik" - GTK equivalent of ThinKeramik. This is the 1st version,
so will probably have some errors. Note: Menus in GTK2 apps will be the window
colour - can't figure out how to make this different!

(NOTE: *Requires* QtPixmap >= 0.26)

0.25... See "ChangeLog" in archive for previous entries...

Hi!

I really like thsi theme, unfortunatelly the colors and widgets does not match exactly. I use the Keramik theme for kde3.0 downloaded here from kdelook.org. Here is a screenshot of what i am talking about:

http://aktiv.co.hu/~hirisov/geramik/screenshot1.png

what do i do wrong?..:) On shots i can see pretty similar color schemes for gtk & kde apps.

Thanks for your help!

You're using an old verion of Keramik. Geramik is designed/copied from the latest CVS version of Keramik.

Hi!

And can you help me please where can i find info about this CVS version of keramik and if it works w/ KDE3.0 ? Or does it require 3.1 rc? After installing CVS of keramik should i reinstall geramik?

thanks, hirisov

 CVS Keramik...

Not wanting to sound insulting, but if you don't know what CVS is - then I suggest you just wait for KDE3.1, and install that. Should be out very soon.

 CVS :)

Hi!

Yeah I know what CVS is, just not sure if there's a separated Keramik theme somewhere (as i found for 3.0), which (as a project itself) could have an own CVS version, or you were talking about the CVS version of KDE 3.1, which has Keramik as its default theme? Sorry for not being precise. BTW i'm testing gentoo now which has 3.1rc3 in it, so if needed i can install 3.1 i think. AFAIK 3.1 beta1 has just come out, do you think 3.1 final will be released soon? i haven't seen a roadmap for that, but it would be great :)

thanks, hirisov

 CVS ;-)

the Keramik widget style is in kdelibs/kstyles/keramik. So you can get the latest frmo either the 3.1rc tarballs, or getting kdelibs from KDE's CVS. I'd just use the rc tarballs though - there's not much difference.

SuSE 8.1 also ships a Version of Keramik with KDE 3.0.3. This works with Geramik.

 Round Select buttons

Why does your version of Keramik have round Menu, Maximize, Minimize and Close Buttons? Are you images from the gimp or your actual desktop. Keramik is the latest release (kde3.1 rc3 has the traditional buttons). I think I like the round buttons better, so could you provide a little information about them.

 Window decoration...

by CraigD on: Nov 20 2002

Score 50%

The window decoration in the screenshots is a modified version of KDE's keramik kwin style. I changed the titlebar pixmap back to the old striped version, and added my own round / (optionally) coloured buttons.

If I can be bothered to package it up I may send it to kde-look.

Just in case you're interested - i've uploaded my kwin client. Have a look for "Agua" in the native window decorations section.

 2 bugs

Hi,
Geramik really looks cool! But there are some problems with the fonts. When starting gimp1.2 all the startup text is written on top of one another. And the fonts generally don't look as nice as they do in regular KDE. I am using debian/sid.

 Fonts...

by CraigD on: Nov 21 2002

Score 50%

Which locale are you in? i.e. what does "env $LANG" or "env $LC_TYPE" say?

Also, what does the "font=" line say in ~/.kderc? Does an "xlsfonts" list this font anywhere?

Geramik tries to create an X font description (as in whats produced by xlsfonts) - from the contents of the "font=" line in ~/.kderc. It also tries to guess the encoding to use from the locale.

Can you try:
export QTPIXMAP_GTK_ENC=iso8859-2

(replace iso8859-2 with whicherver encoding you normally use)

and see if this helps?
