Description:

GTK theme *and* engine intended to make GTK applications have a similar look
to the Keramik KDE style.

The theme, and pixmaps within, are based upon the alpha release of Keramik_GTK
by Goamaus. However, most pixmaps have been re-created, and/or modified.

Geramik requires QtPixmap >=0.26 (QtPixmap is no longer included in the Geramik archive. Get QtPixmap from http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=7043)

Screenshot 2 is of Mandrake's diskdrake - showing the recolouring of buttons.

To install:

tar zxvf Geramik-0.23.tar.gz
cd Geramik-0.23
./configure
make
make install (as root)

...then copy /usr/share/themes/Geramik/gtk/gtkrc to either /etc/gtk/gtkrc or ~/.gtkrc

...or for GTK2, copy
/usr/share/themes/Geramik/gtk-2.0/gtkrc to either /etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc or ~/.gtkrc-2.0

Changelog:

0.27
----
1. Fix ThinGeramik horizontal scrollbar thumb.

0.26
----
1. Add "ThinGeramik" - GTK equivalent of ThinKeramik. This is the 1st version,
so will probably have some errors. Note: Menus in GTK2 apps will be the window
colour - can't figure out how to make this different!

(NOTE: *Requires* QtPixmap >= 0.26)

0.25... See "ChangeLog" in archive for previous entries...

 gtkrc template...

by CraigD on: Nov 18 2002

Score 50%

...but gtkrc is already generated from gtkrc-template - I replace "pixmap_path" and "module_path" with where the theme will be installed. Therefore, there should be no problem.

How would I use gtkrc.in?

 gtkrc.in [low prio]

Ah, sorry. I see now that it is
generated. However it is not
generated again when you run
configure the second time (or later),
which was why I thought it had not
been generated the first time...
lots a generated in that paragraph, lol

So I would suggest adding gtkrc to be removed when doing clean
*bit unsure which target*
and possibly adding a dependency
on Makefile so that it will be regenerated after a configure.
ie.
gtkrc: gtkrc-template Makefile
cat gtkrc-template | sed s:DATA_DIR:$(datadir):g | sed s:LIB_DIR:$(libdir):g > gtkrc

"The first time" is unclear what it actually refers to (I meant the
the first time I posted) so change to

which was why I thought it had not
been generated when I posted the comment.

 font

Score 50%

hmmm, it looks fine, but eats my default
gtk font. When I run gimp with .gtkrc, all slovak
characters (iso-8859-2 charset) are okay, but
when I put in the gtkrc from this style, it gets applied but the fonts
are screwed up (some weird iso-8859-1 font). When
I do rm -f .gtkrc, they are okay again.

 Font encoding...

by CraigD on: Nov 19 2002

Score 50%

To make the font match KDE's I manually set GTK's font, but don't specify the encoding - as .kderc doesn't list an encoding. I'll try to figure out which encoding to use via Gtk - this should then solve your problems.

As a quick hack - you can edit qtpixmap_main.c:

Look for the line:

char *format="-%s-%s-%s-%s-*-*-*-%d-*-*-%s-*-*-*"

and change to:

char *format="-%s-%s-%s-%s-*-*-*-%d-*-*-%s-*-iso8895-2"

...this should solve the problem for now.

Are there any plans on releasing a GTK2 theme of geramik? or would the port be too difficult.

 GTK2 Version...

Yeah - I'm working on this. I've got a non-coloured (i.e. grey-scale) version working. Just need to figure out how to apply colours to GdkPixbuf's...

 GTK2 Apps...

by CraigD on: Nov 22 2002

Well it works for me using the gtk-demo that comes qith the GTK2 tar ball, and junkie (the 1st GTK2 app I could find to do a quick test on).

Are you sure your ./configure found your GTK2 installation? Has the library been created? Did you install gtkrc-2.0 correctly???

The main problem with the GTK2 port is that menus are not being coloured correctly - this has been repoted by other users (so it must work).

 Something Simpler?

How about merging Light V3 and Raleigh?

They are pretty similar already, and there are lots of people who would like consistency who are not fans of eye candy.

This would be wonderful. At home I like to use the Keramik/Geramik themes, but at work I like the clean utilitarian look and feel of Light V3. A GTK theme that used my colors and fonts from KDE, and matched Light V3 would be killer! Thanks.

 GTK Icons

Do you know how to change the icons? Maybe only for the next versions of GTK?
Gnome usability has different sets of icons. Is it usable today or depends on CVS gnome-GTK?

It would be nice to have crystal icons in GTK apps too.
