Updated:  Oct 19 2003

Description:

GTK theme *and* engine intended to make GTK applications have a similar look
to the Keramik KDE style.

The theme, and pixmaps within, are based upon the alpha release of Keramik_GTK
by Goamaus. However, most pixmaps have been re-created, and/or modified.

Geramik requires QtPixmap >=0.26 (QtPixmap is no longer included in the Geramik archive. Get QtPixmap from http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=7043)

Screenshot 2 is of Mandrake's diskdrake - showing the recolouring of buttons.

To install:

tar zxvf Geramik-0.23.tar.gz
cd Geramik-0.23
./configure
make
make install (as root)

...then copy /usr/share/themes/Geramik/gtk/gtkrc to either /etc/gtk/gtkrc or ~/.gtkrc

...or for GTK2, copy
/usr/share/themes/Geramik/gtk-2.0/gtkrc to either /etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc or ~/.gtkrc-2.0

Changelog:

0.27
----
1. Fix ThinGeramik horizontal scrollbar thumb.

0.26
----
1. Add "ThinGeramik" - GTK equivalent of ThinKeramik. This is the 1st version,
so will probably have some errors. Note: Menus in GTK2 apps will be the window
colour - can't figure out how to make this different!

(NOTE: *Requires* QtPixmap >= 0.26)

0.25... See "ChangeLog" in archive for previous entries...

 Gnome 2

by henryst on: Nov 14 2002

Is this supposed to work for Gnome 2? I am using Mandrake 9.0 and it just doesn't want to work. Hell only about 12 of the 100+ themes in /usr/share/themes appear in the "themes" control center(they were all installed by Mandrake, yet don't work).

The weird thing is that Galeon is using this Geramik theme. The only themes that appear in the control center have "gtk-2.0" folders in /usr/share/themes/foo
And the ones that don't appear all have just "gtk" as the folder name. Are they incompatible? I really don't use GNome, just wanted GIMP and a couple of other
guys too match the rest of my KDE.

Nevermind, I was judging by the fact that the control center, nautilus, and desktop themes didn't match. But Galeon works..and I just seen that the GIMP and XMMS do work!! That's all I cared about.

Well Galeon only partly works(toolbars are still dark gray). Same thing with Evolution. Oh, it's toolbars AND scrollbars that are still butt ugly. Buttons and Menus are respecting the Geramik style.

 GTK/Gnome 2...

by CraigD on: Nov 14 2002

Score 50%

This only works for GTK1.x apps (GNOME 1.x, etc).

GTK/GNOME 2 apps would need a style compiled against GTK 2.x. I'm thinking about downloading GTK 2.x at the weekend - and maybe altering the pixbuf (GTK2's pixmap) engine in a similar way. But that might take a little while... Still, this one only took a couple of days...

Can you send me a screenshot of Evolution before and after using this? Also, do you have any other GTK themes that alter Evolution correctly? If so, can you send this to me?

Thanks.

Really great work. We should have matching GTK themes for all the best KDE themes.

So far - as far as I know - we have matching KDE and GTK themes for:

- Keramik
- Liquid
- QNX

Hi
Indeed a great job!
Question: how to adjust the fonts in this theme?
To make a version that can be installed from gnome-control-center will be great!

 Setting fonts...

by CraigD on: Nov 15 2002

...not really sure. I'll have to look into using ~/.qt/qtrc to get font settings as well. This will be a little trickier though. I'm not sure if a GTK engine can override font settings.

It'd be better if KDE would do a "Apply fonts to non-KDE apps" as it can with colour settings.

Anyway, I'll add it to the TODO.

For now you could just edit ~/.gtkrc and add:

font="-adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal-*-*-120-*-*-p-*-iso8895-1"

(edit the string for your required font)

to the style "Defualt"

section (after the first { )

 GTK font size on KDE

by rcc on: Nov 16 2002

Score 50%

my ~/.qt/qtrc is updated at each login to KDE

however, since the switch from 0.02 to 0.03 GTK fonts are tiny under KDE. I can't tell why this is since qtrc and kderc have the same font line.

anyway, on my box GTK fonts under KDE are always smaller than KDE fonts, so I patched

[markd@pc4 Geramik-0.03]$ diff engine/qtpixmap_theme_main.c.orig engine/qtpixmap_theme_main.c
353c353
(int)(size*10+20),

to make font sizes roughly the same.

just in case someone has the same prob.

on MDK gtk sources another file, /etc/gtk/gtkrc.iso-8859-15, which just holds font info. My install scripts patch this file to make fonts larger but it doesn't seem to work whith Geramik.

thanks for the theme

- Mark

i've simply changed the line with default kde font setting in ~/.kderc to font=-*-tahoma-*-*-*-*-11-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-2
(it means to use tahoma font at 11 pixel size and i'm czech, so i use iso8859-2)
change it to yours (hint: see e.g. xfontsel) and it works great with both KDE and Geramik too!

I recently switched to use Phoenix instead of Konqueror for webbrowsing, this theme makes Phoenix look as good as the rest of my Desktop!
