This is the first complete release of my dark theme, Smoked Glass. It now includes a GTK And a Metacity theme.

I'm still looking for a good icon set if anyone has suggestions.

Changelog:

-Corrects prelight color problem found by bvc.

A new metacity theme with different min, max, and close buttons will be released in the next day or so.

0.9
---
-Metacity theme added
-Various small tweaks to the GTK theme.

0.4
---
-Left, right, and bottom tabs now work properly (tested in Bluefish).
-Various color tweaks for fonts
-Prelights for most items, though they are suble and will probably be made more obvious.

0.3

BEST dark theme I have used recently. Gives a modern and polished look to the desktop.

Can you make a silver (light) version of the theme?!! I use dark themes at night and light ones during the day :) haha

Buttons need a little more prelight to be more noticable.

Yes, actually. After I'm completely done with this version, I'm planning on a releasing several color variants.

Three will be dark like this, but with a different color tint. The rest will be based on a light version of this theme.

Although the theme is ok, it would have been better if it hadn't been a knock-off.

I doubt many people who actually view the screenshots would agree with you.

Really, aside from the fact that they're both based on a glass look, I don't see much in common at all - color scheme is completely different, my widgets are nothing like Microsoft's, and I certainly wasn't trying to imitate Aero.

Really, while there are some very cool things about Aero Glass from a technical perspective, I personally find it to be very inconsistent, and overall find their glass effects only really make it hard to focus on text - it's definitely not a style I'd imitate. And I'm speaking from experience; I'm an MSDN member and I have the beta of Vista installed on another PC.

 font

I like this theme, but unlike your screenshot, my font comes out a light blue. I'd prefer the white as the blue doesn't have enough contrast for me. I don't know how to change it. My font preferences dialogue let's me change everything BUT the font color. How do I get the white font?

The font is actually light blue in the screenshot as well; jpeg compression messed it up, I guess.

The font color is controlled in the gtkrc file in the Smoked Glass theme directory (usually in ~/.themes/Smoked Glass/).

To make it white, you can open this file, go down to about line 93, and replace:

text[whatever] = "#9dbed0"

with

text[whatever] = "#ffffff"

That should make it white. You'll have to save and reload the theme to see the change.

Yes, actually, I noticed that after I posted. I really like the theme and use it now. There are a few places where the font is inconvenient, but mostly the blue is nice.

One thing I would like to change is in Firefox. The font in the pulldown menus has been changed to the light blue as well as the font on the personal toolbar. This does not show up against the background. I'd like to keep the basic theme for Firefox but I don't know how to change the font color just in the pulldown menus and on that toolbar.

Anyway, thanks for the very nice theme.

Firefox can be tweaked extensively by changing your UserChrome.css and UserContent.css files - but that may be a bit more than you want to do.

There are extensions to make it easier, like:

 I have minor errors

So im using Fedora Core 4 with the latest kernel and jada jada jada. The problem is OpenOffice 2.0, Impress won't work properly with a dark theme. I think it has something to do with the fact that the "paper" wich you are writing on in the program turns black to. So i just wondered if anyone know how to fix this problem. Or can you please make a simillar theme with white textbox and main fraims? Thanx in advance for any answers

MvH - SiN

PS. I love this theme :)

I always planned to make a lighter version of it; I just got busy with other stuff.

Now that the semester is over, I'll try to get the lighter versions done.

Sorry about the wait :)
