Re: Re: None of those options

I found the coolest theme and bootsplash for openSUSE ... Ubuntu had a lot of nice features, software, etc. but openSUSE seems to work the best in varied networking environments.

I tried setting them both up in a business environment once ... Ubuntu would not allow the login's the Active Directory (yeah, they were Windoz folks) required ...

but openSUSE not only allowed that but was able to come onboard as a registered workstation in the active directory, using the LDAP and AD for login credentials! Shares, etc. all worked!

For a personal workstation, if you're not used to LINUX, Ubuntu would be fine. I really love it's features and menu system (Ubuntu 2) but when UNITY came out? I spent a while finding the way to turn that "off". Now, I can't seem to get rid of the icon quickbar on the left. Finally just shucked it off and installed openSUSE's latest. I tried KDE this time, and was very VERY impressed!

It appears that gnome is now emmulating Apple, and KDE is emmulating Windows 7 ... not the same, but similar. What I find funny is, Ubuntu comes up with something for their X, and then Apple adds it. Apple then comes up with something, and it appears on Ubuntu.

We live in an interesting world!

Because of Ubuntu's UNITY, I finally went back to openSUSE and their KDE. I can always choose either at login, but really love the new KDE4 stuff!

Goodbye Ubuntu ... you were great until UNITY showed up!
