Personal & Professional Profile

I am an experienced BI Consultant with management and hands on development experience. My BI skills and understanding of DW Architectures and concepts (Inmon, Kimball, Data Vault) are excellent. I have worked with most databases (MS SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase, Teradata, MYSQL). My experience with Business Objects, Microsoft SQL Suite, SQL and ETL knowledge is very good.

I have worked extensively with SSRS and SSIS, occasionally with SSAS delivering successful projects. I have also delivered successful BODI projects. In addition I have project management experience and a good understanding of Agile and Waterfall. I have worked with OS such as VMS, Unix, Linux and Windows which provides me a wide ranging understanding of IT support and delivery. In addition I have an ITIL background and have worked not only with several service management tools but also as an ITIL consultant.

My biggest strengths lie in problem solving, analysis and my ability to deliver successful projects, be they hands on development, training, project management, management/leadership, or just communication. I am calm, intelligent and strong minded yet friendly and open minded.

My IT career began as a programmer and throughout my career I have consciously tried to maintain and update my skills, ensuring I still have a good understanding of programming in a number of languages and am more than capable of reading/ modifying code.
I have always been customer focused, worked in a number of countries, been self sufficient on site whilst ensuring my parent company was kept up to date. I took on various responsibilities including supporting the EMEA indirect sales channel (pre and post sales support).

I am a good communicator at all levels, enjoy gathering business requirements and scoping projects whilst always retaining good business focus. I have a good understanding of IT's role within businesses and good process knowledge across a number of domains.

Acknowledge BV
(Period: March2012 to Aug 2013)
Business Intelligence Consultant
Job Type: Contract

Acknowledge BV acquired Priox after which I continued to work on the BI model and support Priox's existing customers.

I undertook internal training of Acknowledge's staff to enable understanding of BI concepts and build reports against the Priox BI DM. I also worked on a SQL Service consolidation project for Stichting Groenhuysen one of Acknowledge's customers
I also worked on a Management Information Data Warehouse for Acknowledge which integrated a number of sources, such as service delivery, financial and support systems.

Priox BV
(Period: Jan 2010 to February 2012)
Shareholder & Director
Job Type: Shareholder

One of my main roles was to build a BI Module for the Priox Service Management Application, I took the approach of providing a ready platform for BI, which would support the customers reporting tool(s) of choice. The goal was to overcome many of the issues associated with BI adoption and provide the customers with a powerful analytic reporting platform that could be extended.

I designed a Star Schema around ITIL Service Management (SM) in general not the Priox Application directly. This provided a generic data mart. This allowed for the loading of data from other SM tools, protected the model from changes in the source database This was important because Priox's data model is not fixed, it depended on the customers configuration.

The problem was how to develop a single ETL process that could adapt to the customised source database schema. A star schema was chosen because its understood easily by most if not every reporting tool on the market and provides a powerful dimensional report model even on the simplest of tools.

The complete SSIS package consists of around 5 separate ETL packages (steps), the first part of which writes its own SQL based on Priox's system tables, this maps the customised schema to a standard data model. Life events are built from both changes in the main tables and re-constructed from historical records so that the DW does not miss any life-cycle events.

The ETL also calculates elapsed time between events based on the SLA's service windows associated with the call, i.e. work patten Monday till Friday from 09:00 – 17:30. Multiple service windows are supported. The ETL process could calculate the elapsed time between around 32000 events in around 50 seconds.

Whilst working on this project I also investigated and did some pilot projects on loading data from various IT Infrastructure Monitoring tools such as Nagios and Kaseya. The BI module is now being used by several companies in NL and one in the UK.
