Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: That votin' do
May 17 2010  on group improved voting system

What if I want to vote bad and leave a useful comment? What if my comment isn't at all that useful?

What's important here is that visitors can come here and quickly find something they want. If I want to see what's popular amongst the community of Gnome users, I should be able to find that quickly. Most downloaded theme? Make it easy to find. I think Tags will make it easier too for finding some more specifics, like "modern", "dark" "murrine engine". Something like that.

Artists and developers hurt over some bad ratings should get some tougher skin IMO. But is the voting necessary? Maybe.

Why should voting bad should be so restrictive? This seems like a problem with ego to me, that anyone cannot stand for someone to not like their work.

So why do I vote bad for some themes? Well, I don't like themes that are dark, overly glossed or shiny, and use bright colours like green, lots of neon, pukey green. However, the artist that made that theme probably likes dark, shiny, greeny things, and wanted their desktop to reflect that. How will my comment change all that? What will it add to that? Maybe at least they will know why they are getting low ratings.

I don't see much evidence of abuse. However, it could be possible that a lot of old, less relevent themes are hanging around in the top rating pages because a lot of people are too polite or afraid to vote bad. Maybe?

I'd really like to see the newer, frequently updated, relevent themes reach the ratings they deserve.

Maybe a volunteer of panelist judges for "official" ratings? idk.

GtK Themes 73% good
Mar 4 2010  on group improved voting system

There are 24 pages of Gtk themes rated 73% good and 18 pages rated at 72% , is everything equalizing or something? Alot of these themes are at least 2 years old. I understand that there are some "timeless" themes out there. Unity is quite good, so are some of those Aurora themes. Unfortunately, alot of good, new themes are buried behind all those old themes.

Has anyone else noticed this?

The alternative solution is check the latest tab, but if a new theme is not updated every day or week, then it was also get buried.

I've never liked Ubuntu's use of brown and orange, but you made it look very good. Is there any way to make the sliders a little bigger, they're tiny.
