yeah you are probably right that it would not be in the spirit of linux to limit people on what they are allowed to upload. Personally I find branding very distasteful, though, and too many times it will ruin an otherwise excellent work of art.

In all, I agree 100% that anything ubuntu-related should be moved over to ubuntu-art =)

Amen brother! There is in fact ubuntu-art.org toward which everything ubuntu-branded should be submitted, but despite this group being the most visible group for two months (happy anniversary btw) people have still not figured that out.

lol I was literally about to say the exact same thing when I refreshed and saw you beat me to it

Everything looks very slick although I'm also not to fond of the vista-ish window decor. Try designing your own, it will probably be better ;D

I really like that idea. Sort of like the voting at rotten tomatoes, which is split between critics, "cream of the crop", and rt community.

I know that wasn't directly related to voting, but the point of voting is to distinguish the good from the bad. I think the tiered system could help make that more efficient.

Re: brainstorming

just an idea

but maybe separate artwork into different "tiers", with one for artwork from professional/experienced people, one for roughly intermediate level, and one for beginners who are uploading some of their first creations and might want more technique hints.

or possibly they could be divided into tiers of polished/finished uploads and beta/experimental project uploads.

conversations, but my apologies greyhat. I was not really intending to attack open source, I was really just trying to push around an idea that might make the site better, or worse. In hindsight it was rather off topic for this group anyway.

ok
I had my filter set to above 60% so I wasn't really seeing what you are really talking about.

still I think its better to criticize constructively whenever possible then let people make the same mistakes -eg imitating windows >:(- over and over

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:
Apr 14 2008  on group Tired of Ubuntu Wallpapers!

are you agreeing with me?

people SHOULD justify who they vote for, at least with themselves, so that they can be sure they have a legit reason for their vote and just because they are "a fracking robot"

don't get me wrong, it would be ludicrously stupid to have everyone vote good; it would make no sense at all. but for someone to work hard on something only to be rated bad by people simply because he started a certain group, thats just childishness that should not be tolerated in a community of linux users. credit should be given where credit is due.
