You all see! These icons rock!!!

It's one thing that can show you visually that KDE & Linux is better than this Windoof-Crap!

So well: The other iconskins are good in deed. But I like crystal more. It looks newer than XP ;-)

Excellent. I am really glad that this is finally happening.
Now about the poll, yes it's kind of mispositioned. Crystal is the latest craze, and new things tend to look good, till we use them on a regular basis.
And about the icons being bluesy. All the icon sets except probably the default hicolor theme are bluesy. Criticising one of them on that basis is a trifle unfair.
Secondly I happen to use photographs as my wallpaper. And on such a wallpaper none of the cartoonish icons look good EXCEPT Crystal! Which shows that it is kind of a flexible to an extent provided there are shades of blue around. Slick of course fit in very well, but somehow i find that though photographic they tend to look 2D and kind of lumpy in comaprision to Crystal. This is merely a personal opinion AND NOT intended to start a flame war. On the other hand some Crystal icons like the trash can icon seem drab to me. Again there are some Ikons icons (forgive the pun) that seem to be soft not sparkly like the other two. And after a couple of days when i get tired of them they will all probably seem drab.
The point I am trying to make is there is no best icon theme. Each theme has its plus points and minuses. I think i have already pointed out a few. A collaboration of the sort mentioned above will have to take all that into account to create a close to perfection icon theme.
Why not start a poll on what icons to use for different items. You could put candidates in a lsit and get users to vote. For example a K menu icon. Lots of people have criticised th eCrystal K icon. Put different candidate icons and put it on a vote. That way the end user can decide what he wants as default. Other users can always change the thing later, but the majority will get what they voted for. Any ideas on this guys?

 KDE3.1 Icons

iKons would be a good standard theme. Crystal not. It's too frisky. Some Icons, as the device Icons, are just ugly. Maybe it could be shipped as a second theme but not as the one users should see first...

iKons from the beginning was a direct copy of XP icons.. anyone remember the user icons, those were straight from XP as were several other iKons. Each release there are more icons added and there are less stolen icons... although it looks like the desktop icon is from another icon set... the CD icons are from crystal...it wouldnt be so bad if iKons author would give credit to all the people he is stealing/taking ideas from...

What about the Marbles set? I gotta think that Markus feels rather left out with this poll to not even being included in it. The guy's got a 81% Good rating on it. It's the set I'm currently using.

I was using Slick for months prior to trying out Marbles just this past week. iKons are just too flat feeling, Cyrstal is just to "girly-ish" for me, and HiColor really isn't MUCH different than iKons (IIRC, isn;t that what iKons grew out of?).

I feel Slick is the greatest set OVER ALL. It feels to be the most complete (I have to admit I hate Konq's throber in the past few versions, but...), and there is a true theme to it. They aren't all blue with a shiny side, they aren't all flat and basic feeling, and (inreference to Marbles) they aren't all shiny blobs (but it is kinda cool still). Again, OVER ALL, I think Slick to be the best.

Of course, this is just my opinion.

 Marbles

Thank you for suggesting the Marble icon set as a default for KDE, but I fear this is not a very good idea. :-)
The theme is mostly a mix of extracted and framed icons from different artists and icon sets; they are just clones and a good example of plagiarism. Unthinkable all people which work I have used would be lucky when I first steal their work and afterwards get any credit for it.
Besides the icon set has aesthetically a very pronounced appearance which will only appeal to a fraction of users.
Furthermore a subset of the icon set (Translucent Edition) is only usable and nice looking in certain enviroments (colour schemes, backgrounds).
Summary: I have to vote against this. :-)

Where are the great, new "Free icons" in the poll? My vote would certainly go to them. I really like their "comicbook"-look.
