Pascal syntax is complex, and as such, is not an ideal RAD tool to begin with.

There's a more excellent, Visual-Basic clone for Linux. It clones only the language and syntax, but not the buggy and crashy architecture. Gambas uses Qt 3.0 and is a great RAD for KDE apps.

HBasic looks outdated. Gambas is developed more rapidly and faster. The Visual Basic syntax in Gambas is also leaner and much cleaner than FreePascal.

i also would like to see a REAL open source alternative for photoshop. no, gimp is not. gimp is just a toy compared to photoshop. anyone working with professonial graphics will agree. tho, all those run photoshop on mac os X, which is unix-based and therefore ok to use too ;)

but most importantly, games are missing. people want games. so they just can throw CD in and it works without recompiling kernel, hacking winex, editing this and that....

Well, yes, gimp is not as good aas photoshop, but it is on its way. What is better in Microsoup systems is the driver support for dsl-cards. I have a dsl card (Eicon Diva ADSL), that was supported in suse 3.0 and redhat 7.3 (although the redhat driver didn't work... *grml*), but afterwards never ever got any support, although millions of them were sold.

I can't agree on the "gamesgamesgames" thing. Linux is a working-horse, not a kids-game-cube. Games are (in my opinion )totally unnecessary for Linux (apart from a chess game for work breaks ... hehehe), because there are enough gaming options elsewhere and Linux must not become the same stupid game-console that needs better graphic cards, better processors and better whatdoiknow every 3 months. I switched to Linux, because I wanted a stable and durable system, not injury-prone-kid-stuff.

I don't really care what YOU want.

It's just a fact that 90% of Linux users have Windows too on their computers, just because of the games. And what comes for game consoles: they suck. Not a single good game. All gameconsole games are car, arcade or such games. No RPG or strategy games at all.

And also a note:
I have WindowsXP too, and I don't use Linux because I hate microsoft, I use Linux because I love UNIX-systems. One big difference between me and zealots...

and lets also add that gimp "has been on it's way" for last five years, and no progress. no progress.

having a bunch of "nice" perl-written effects that just "do something" is not enough for being good graphics program.

buy yourself a mac & photoshop and get a clue.

Hmm.... why would you even think of MS being better in anything ?

Thought that was impossible ?
Using UNIX for years now and this beats any MS sw package any time of the day on all fronts.

Companies are at the root for at least 90 percent of my linux problems and anyone I know would agree.

***Hardware support and available programs come with company support. If companies noticed Linux that would solve this.
