I would use KDE everywhere, accept my laptop is a sthinkpad 390x. That must be the worst machine ever builded. I have tried to figure out what the man behind the specs of that machine was thinking. It was prop. build for windows 98 and office 97, but running office on that machine is a pain in the but. But lets not talk about M$.
So I use blackbox, and sometimes icewm.

Mainly at home but more and more I'm trying to convince my teachers to use Linux/KDE etc. instead of EvilEmpire OS.
Also in some situations KDE-Games are a real attraction.
Yesterday, I brought my machine on a "gathering" and they just played "SameGame" all the time... ;)

Now that's something I want.
So, tell me never-a-laptop-owner-before: is there something to avoid purchasing modern laptops? KDE and Linux must of course work perfectly.

*Don't buy centrino laptops, it's not supported yet for linux
*ACPI is dominant in new laptops. The support is getting better every day, but it may not work. Be careful. Anyway this just would imply that you might not be able to suspend the laptop or monitor de battery and so on. Nothing you cannot live without.
*Graphic cards: S3/Savage chipsets have been and are all over the place. Still, due to lack of support from them, they have no graphics acceleration support
*Modems: most have winmodems. Fortunately, plenty of them work with Lucent chipsets, which work in linux. Make sure it's one of them.

I used to use KDE when I just stared using Linux. From these times I have this account =)
But the time goes by and now I'm using Slackware instead of RedHat and using GNOME 2.2 instead of KDE -- sorry guys but GNOME ROCKS =)

I've tried Gnome on several occasions (usually w/ each new release), but I just can't get into it.

KDE Everywhere...

I can't get gnome to work (sooo many things to install), so I use KDE which only needs qt, arts, kdebase, and kdlibs (plus some eyecandy from here).
