I just use it for the picture frames, I like them to be tilted. Or for notes.

The use is more psychological than practical, I guess. People feel more comfortable with objects that they can manipulate in many ways -they feel in 'control'. Plus, the ability to tilt objects serves for some nifty beautifying of the desktop workspace, since it doesn't look like a bunch of blocks, but rather an arrangement of objects. I reiterate again, however; it is all psychological.

I don't think I've ever used it but I see no reason for removing it. You know the moment you remove it you're going to say, "I wish I could rotate this."

The rotation feature is not as important as the resize feature.
But still at some widgets the rotation is very nice feature, like with image widgets or.... Yeah... you get the point. I just went trough all the widgets what I have installed (53!) and I did not find any other than the picture frame what I would like to rotate by look.

And I dont even use the rotation at most widgets as it is ugly effect on most of them.

It seems the anti-aliasing is done per widget, not by all widgets. As different widgets gives totally different results. Example:

On left side you can see binary clock, it is totally sharp and very well anti-aliased.
The CPU metering is OK but could be better (check the % lines).

The pastebin widget is as well very well anti-aliased (the icon on it is over-scaled but check the font).

On right side you can see calender widget, OK but could be much better. Check the color rectangles and the space between days. Should be like on binary clock!

The folder view, it is totall crap. Good if you can read any text from it! (please, check the first folder on it the "grub". Under the folder there is a text "grub" with same font and same size as the folderview has. But the other is done with GIMP and rotated + applied a shadow effect. Even that font looks bigger and sharper than the folder view widget has.

The third is the picture frame and the photo looks good on it.

----------Bottom line------------

The rotation is very fancy effect and can be used to create a nice desktop. It is not widely used but it is something nice. So I would keep it if there would be a easy way to have a 5, 10 and 15 degree rotation possibilityes, instead just the free rotation. There is somewhere a wish to have as well a grid for widgets so people could resize widgets to be exactly same sized at wanted positions.

And even that the rotation function is not so much used, it really allows users to express themselfs at one artistic way. Even that if it is used by 1% of the widgets and 1% of the users.

I think the rotation/resize problems could be worked out if we just get change to set wanted widget sized by pixels and we can rotate widgets freely and with specific degrees and everything would be very nicely anti-aliased!
