Have I gone totally insane or doesn't KDE default to having a background image in Konq? I know that for a while, it defualts to having the stipple (soft, small lines) BG. Is this asking more wether we leave it as is, or disable that? I personally use it (it's softer on the eyes then the plain blinding white). Just my opinion, of course.

I think most people will leave it as default, but probably they didn't understand what exactly the question was.

How many screenshots have you actually seen otherwise with the background completely removed?

Especially those that like Aqua tend to put lines everywhere. I'm getting fed up with so much aqua stuff. I'd like to create my own anti-lines group ;-)

 Transparency?

What I would really like would be a (pseudo) transparent background, like konsole has.

no point till they sort out xfree86 and we get proper transparancy instead of the hacks dont get me wrong the hack are clever but all things considered they dont do the job properly.

We could really use true transparency, these hacks are not good enough. many projects could use true transparency.

The KDE shadows, Karamba, Kicker, window decoration with shadow, konsole and the list goes on... When is true transparency scheduled to appear in X?

I guess we'll have to wait until XFree86 guys reorganize themselves first. When they decide what to do about KP and so on thing may start looking better.
