i do anything with them because i can't map a shortcut on them... it would be nice to be able to move the windows with the 6th buttons for example (like with "alt+clic & move"

you can bind some shortcuts for them by xbindkeys. forward backward for 6 and 7 buttons perhaps?

you'll need xvkbd, the xbindkeys and ~/.xbindkeysrc including these

"xvkbd -xsendevent -text '\[XF86Back]'"

In Windows, I had a 7-button mouse. I used the 6th button to go back and 7th o go forward, but I can really live without that function (I use mouse gestures instead). But it would nice to have a button for something like Kompose, I think.

My fancy Logitech mouse that I love dearly in Windows, has a lot of nice buttons.
Beyond 5, Side scrolling in addition to normal up down(6,7)I have a scroll jump up and down(page up/down 8,9) Back and Forward for browsing(10,11). And a little application button that brings up a visual seelction menu for a step above alt tabbing.(12)

I really love it, but I can live without all but side scrolling now and back/forward buttons which don't map well in linux.

Using Gentoo with the new modular Xorg tree, I use the Logitech G5 gaming mouse, with all the buttons working as they should. (Side to side scroll, up/down, etc. - using the evdev mouse driver).

Well, my trackball has 4 buttons plus a wheel (is like two buttons) which can be clicked, makes 7 buttons. I use all of them but I don't use special functions. I use one as left mousebutton (with thumb), the wheel as middle mousebutton (with thumb too) and two as right mousebutton (thumb and little finger, most of the time the little finger - index finger and middle finger move the ball). So I can navigate and click with the most minimal movements. The second middle mousebutton I use very very rarely because I have to click it with my ring finger which is uncomfortable. But I often click it accidently :-\ I think the more buttons a mouse or trackball has the more comfortable it can be configured for every use and person. Especially the smaller the hands the more buttons a mouse/trackball must have so common functions can be accomplished without overworking the hand.

I have 4 button mouse + scrollwheel, so I have 6 buttons. On 5th button I have firefox on 6th Kommando which is very useful.

The only thing I miss is that If I click 5th button and turn the scroolwheel something other happen than If I just turn the scrollwheel. That I will then have more actions availible:
5th button - FIrefox
6th Button - Kommando
5th button + scrollwheel - back forward in FF or Konqueror
6th button + scroolwheel - Maybe volume change globally

Now I am using xbindkeys for setting actions for mouse buttons. In the future it would be fine if this was possible to set in KDE.

DOOM/QUAKE, from leftmost to rightmost button:
strafe left, shoot, next weapon, walk backwards, prev weapon, walk forward, strafe right

It would be nice if KDE had options to use the extra buttons (ex. go back/forward in documents history)

erm... to be honest, i'm not sure. it says "# of mouse buttons? (incl. 2 for Scrollwheel?" in the poll question, so i thought i'd have 2+2=4... but on the other hand, i thought my mouse was pretty standard, so it would make 5...
