It always confuses me, when it auto-hides or when it is not where I expect it to be ^^

That's why my kicker is on the bottom and always visible :)

The numbers aren't very significative with that few voters but I expected much more auto-hide Kickers. It's so practical. The panels don't reduce the space on your --always too small-- desktop and they're as much accessible as if they were always visible. Any way, to use a Kicker, you have to bring your mouse cursor to some border of the screen. With auto-hide panels, you have a real reason.

And I don't know why people say it's confusing. The panels don't move around your desktop to play hide and seek with you when they are hidden. ;-)

The only thing that may be difficult to master about auto-hide panels is to stay over them so that they don't disappear by accident. But if you set a delay, they remain on screen for some time even if the mouse leaves them. Personally, I use no delay because I find it annoying that a panel sticks to the screen when I leave it. When I move too far, I just bring the cursor back to the border... but it seldom happens. I'm used to it.

Of course, if you need plenty of monitors on your panels (CPU, RAM, fan, whatever), auto-hide isn't for you. I don't use such things and the only dynamic display on my panels is the clock. The fraction of second I need to get the mouse cursor out of the panel is all the time I need to read the big numbers. Apart from that, the panels are out of the way until I summon them.

You're right about the dynamic things. I want to have my taskbar, clock and system tray visible. Why?
Well, I want to know all the apps that are running, and sometimes I need to know the time. And, for some reasons, I want to know where I have my system tray. I can drag files directly to the right app, I don't have to drag the mouse to the bottom, search for the right icon and release the mouse button.

Right now I have to panels. I'm thinking one panel should have auto hide.

Wouldn't this be a neat optional Feature for KDE-Look? The panel hides automatically, but no matter which border you touch, it always appears at the touched border.

Definitively a wonderful feature... for those who have only one panel. (Unfortunately, I have 3 of them.)

I'd welcome this feature if I could re-arrange all this in a single big panel... but I would also need to be able to re-arrange the items along a grid rather than a line.

Will Plasma enable me to do all this? Hmmm...

Pardon me but that is truly a sick idea...

:)

Nothing could be more nauseating than to witness a bar that you have being accustomed for a lifetime to seeing at the bottom of your screen, jumping from side to side for no apparent reason!

I have a kicker/taskbar in the bottom screen that is always visible, but I have an autohide kicker/systemtray/device-icons in the right side.
So... I vote blank!

On my office windows machine I always use the auto-hide option of the taskbar to save screen estate. The reason why I don't use it in Kicker is, that I use the fake transparency (the "real" Xorg transparency won't work on my machine), and it just looks weird having part of your background image come in front of your application window. This reason may seem ridiculous, but then, I have always used and loved the icon zoom, too ;-)
