 Waiting for KDE 4?

I think it's an error to wait for KDE 4, since KDE 3.5 will be the base for KDE 4 and needs testing.

So upgrade to KDE 3.5 and submit bugs to help making KDE 4 even better.

I really would like to submit bug reports but KDE 3.5 beta2 is unusable... At least, with the packages for my distro (SuSE 10). Konqueror and Kicker are fighting to get 100% of the CPU. And Kicker is the sneakiest because it hides beyond the borders of the desktop and refuses to show its nasty face. It apparently didn't want to give me a change to deactivate the autohide. ;-)

I'm back to 3.4.3. That's the first time I ever downgrade KDE. After all the troubles I went through to manage to make it start, I'm amazed but not in the right way.

I'll wait for final 3.5 dot 1. I'm kinda tired of upgrading. (KDE from 3.4.2 to 3.4.3 for SuSE 9.2, then SuSE 10.0 and its 1200+ packages, then KDE 3.5.b2 and back to 3.4.3. All this in 3 days...)

I'm wondering what new I could download. (Isn't the new X.org supposed to arrive any soon?) ;-)

Please provide information about this at http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=115240 and please, vote for the bug, I think they have to fix it before they release it!

Apparently, the fix is already done. I'll wait for the next 3.5 release for SuSE to do another test.

There are updated KDE 3.5beta2 packages which are solving the problem, so you could update them - it works quite fine here :-)

I've heard --and seen-- so much about QT4 and KDE4 that I don't care much about version 3.5. Usually (when I don't have so many problems), I can hardly wait to update my KDE and I install every version as soon as the RPMs are available for my distro. But this time, I must admit that I keep 3.4.2 a long time because I was stable and there were already news about KDE4. I installed the 3.4.3 almost just because it was there. I wanted 3.5 for the same lack of reason.

KDE 3.5? Who cares? Name me a killer feature/app and maybe I'll consider it. For the moment, I'd rather wait for KDE4... and keep on banging my head against the walls with every fresh piece of information.

I can wait. Bang! I can wait. Bang! ;-)

Man... I know KDE 4 will take a longer time...

But then, I dont find many features that cannot be added in 3.4.3 currently, using superkaramba, etc... Tell me one feature that is added and I will compile the source right away.

I have been following kde-look.org from quite some time now and I am just too enthusiastic to see how many 'KDE Improvements' go into it :)

 Sneaky little Kicker

3.5 isn't so bad. In fact, I'll say its a very good release, but the kicker is definitely up to a lot of mischief in this initial release. If you've got 3.4.3 working perfectly and you can't afford a few glitches on your box don't make the switch. However, if a crash or two doesn't scare you, help the developers debug 3.5, because it has a lot more polish to it than 3.4. Kde 4 may get all the hype, but 3.5 is the proof that Linux can serve as a great everyday desktop. It's got everything you like about 3.4 with the edges rounded and smoothed to perfection, minus the initial bugs that is.
