i use AAC. its based on the MPEG-4 audio compression, has excellent quality; much better than mp3 and with high enough bitrates on par with wav. also, i use apple products. that includes ipod and ipod mini.

OGG is also excellent.

windows on a mac? who the hell would want to do that?

i invented my own format. it saves as plain text so it has the lyrics too! and lossless compression in plain text. also it runs in wine so it's linux compatible.

ok i lied. ogg rules. if my iriver could play flac and had a 1 terabyte hard disk in it then flac would be my fav.

If you had a terabyte, why would you even bother with FLAC.

It would be funny if 15 years from now people look back and wonder why we bothered to compress anything.

i believe that flac and/or open-sourced ape is the future format, cause it is lossless and we'll have large hdds and big bandwidth in the near future.

nevertheless dvd-audios have their own lossless format but i think dvd-a wont be popular untill its protection will be cracked

I see 2% of people voted WMA. I find it strange. No, i find it weird! It's a proprietary format invented by the Microsoft Corp(SE). Who voted for it? Can anyone explain what's going on?

well, we must have some windows users visiting the site.

it is true that most media players support WMA, though. it makes it a kind of universal format.

it also has support for 24 bit/192kHz sample rate. its a way for audiophiles to save play their music at that bitrate and not eat up too much space.

windows on a mac? who the hell would want to do that?

yeah, but don't forget that almost anything can be made to support DRM.

its true, though. DRM sucks. the ideal would be free access to all data.too bad companies don't think so.

I still use MP3. My Car Radio just plays MP3-CDs, my CD-Player just plays MP3-CDs.
Why I should use another format?

Ok, OGG is also cool. But if I would use this format I need to buy new Players. And I'm a very poor guy... So poor... Poor...

When I say "I think" dont believe me... I really dont want to...

there's not much to worry about. MP3 is fine unless you really crave high quality music.

i'm very critical about my sound. my system brings out the compression errors MP3 makes. unless you have a high-end system, MP3 is more than fine.

Like my subject says I prefer Ogg/Vorbis, I konvert all my CD's into it. But my SmartPhone isn't smart enough, since it's build-in player only supports MP3 and the phone isn't powerfull enough to play Ogg's without clicking every 5 seconds :-(
I have only found one Ogg player for my phone, OggPlay http://symbianoggplay.sourceforge.net/
The phone is a Motorola A920 with a 168MHz ARM CPU, 32MB of internal RAM (about 8 of them is free at the moment)... Any ideas?

get an iriver, i wouldnt expect any phone to have an audio system that would be worth using vorbis for anyway.

now i shal go and play with my h140 iriver.
