Well, since of course everybody using BSD voted "Other" it must mean that there are simply not all that many of you guys :)

Anyway, poking aside, it really seems to be a problem with most polls that the top number of options possible in kde-*'s polling system is ten. Maybe it's about time it got updated a little? Breakage to be expected of course, but it would seem to be the time...

Correct. There are only 10 possiple options someone can give, when he creates a poll. I already asked Frank but haven't got a response so far.

Anyway, 10 options is enough in most cases and no poll will ever cover all possible answers.

And are there Distributions based on BSD? Is FreeBSD/OpenBSD/NetBSD a BSD distribution or a BSD derivate?

To mess up a Linux box, you need to work at it; to mess up your Windows box, you just need to work on it.

Distributions? We don't need no stinking distributions!

Seriously. There are no BSD distributions in the Linux sense of the word. What a Linux distro does is to gather and integrate several dozen different projects into a working operating system. There's no need to do with with any BSD because they are already complete operating systems out of the box!

 Xandros 2.5

by cyberchucktx on: Nov 14 2004

I really like Xandros Desktop 2.5.

It was the only one of the recent distros I tried that installed properly on my Dell 8100 with bay-based disk drive.

I have an IDE drive with Windoze 2000 that I really didn't want to touch .. but Fedora Core 2, Mandrake 10.1, and even Debian (not "unstable") wasn't able to even SEE the bay drive, much less install and run from it.

Xandros is Debian-based (I prefer Debian 'cuz of apt) and they have Xandros Network update service similar to Redhat's Network Daemon (RHD).

I like to tell people that

Xandros is to Debian what
Mandrake is to Redhat

Installed cleanly, all menus work, nice default setup of applications.

My $.02.
Charlie

 LFS

I use Linux From Scratch. A long time ago I had to compile nearly any package for the distros i ran, and if I try a different setup it was a hell. That time i don't know too much (well even now but keep on learning).
So I began to compile a LFS, some trys, some mounths and some versions later it became very functional.

I use ubuntu.
Ubuntu is Debian but highly updated and more clean & friendly.
You gotta try it, it packs a excellent bunch of sw in one single CD.
