 apps.kde.com?

Have anyone heard about apps.kde.com? Are they comming back?

Talking about KDE-Apps.org. The design and naviagtion systems are just perfect! However, the list of apps seems to be small. How exactly are you planning solve it? Just by adding whatever u find? Guess it's gonna take loooong time. Probably u could use somehow the DB that apps.k.c already had. Dunno.

Another question. I'm wondoering, is KDE-Look/Apps.org related to kde.org somehow, or your web sites are totally separate.

Authors need to post there work. This will take a little time but as off today it has already taken off. (NOw that the site is on kde.org...)

Importing from apps.kde.com is not a solution since they are requesting a sponsor ransom to bring the site back online...

Seems kde-look and kde-apps cannot really use the exact looknfeel of kde's website since they are mentioned on kde.org has "Disclaimer: Application feed provided by kde-apps.org, an independent KDE website."
...So my guess is they are not to close...

 Much better

than apps.kde.com!
In fact: Perfect. Because I don't
need any special bells and whistles.
It's the simplicity that I like.
I once tried to upload sth. there
and after filling out form after
form it finally never appeared.
No mail to me, nothing. I
always wished there would be
sth. as simple as kde-look
for applications. And BTW it looks
much better than ugly apps.kde.com.

Keep up the good work!!!

Completely true!

KDE-APPS.org team: Congrats on a very nice site. I've just submitted a fresh app.

I've a small request.
Could you add a counter stating the number of submitted apps for each category on the left sidebar. This would save a lot of unneccesary clicking on empty categories.

They are only empty because this site is new. If they will stay empty they will be likely removed.

Finally. I sorely missed appsy, but this is OK. Are we getting the mailing list back too? Please? Minor peeve, the content list is too long. A folding menu of some sorts perhaps?

 One needed feature

There is one feature that comes to mind that kde-apps MUST have. It must distinguish between an update and a new release, and only show new releases on the front page.

The abuse of the update system is pretty annoying on kde-look, but on kde-apps.org it will become infuriating as kde-apps.com used to be the best way to find out about new releases of software.

I really don't care if the entry for Apollon (to pick a random example) has been updated to correct a spelling mistake, but I do care if there has been a new version released.

 improvements

by elektroschock on: Jan 4 2004

Score 50%

- adopt KDE.org corporate design
(red is okay, but get rid of gray and the old logo)

- distribution specific rpm management

- request donations / micropayments for rpm downloads in order to fund application developers, while src shall be free

- mention user mailing lists or user webfora of applications

 Important features

by wismerhill on: Jan 4 2004

I voted "important features missing" (well, not that important), and I'll explain.

There is only one download for each entry, but the author may provide multiple packages, source or pre-compiled.

You should add something like "sub-entry". For exemple, you might have the program myapp which support plugins, and the author (or even other programmers) may add sub-entries with plugins for myapp.

On the main page, with the list of apps, having just the category is not enough, there should be a small (~ 2 lines) description of the program.

That's all I have in mind for now.

Oups, sorry, looks like this one is already possible.
