Open-PC progress

I just want to informed about the latest news from the Open-PC project.

We just received the first Open-PC prototype. So we are really close to announcing the hardware and the price of the first Open-PC.
We are also working on the Operating System to make nice defaults and beautiful custom artwork. We will probably bundle the PC with Software Support but we are still working on the contracts at the moment.

Other questions are how we open up the development of the Operating System. We will probably set up a openSUSE build service project so that everybody can participate.

We will announce the final product soon.
Thank you all for the patience.

Great theme! It would be nice if you'd make the theme a little more light weight, beacuse my laptop heats up a bit.

I would suggest the new Pardus 2009.1 preinstalled in Open PC.
Very userfriendly and have 11 languages.
Good reviews to.

If Open PC will be sold with a pre-installed operating system I think OpenSUSE is wrong choice. Maybe power users who are experienced Linux user like it.
Same with Mandriva 2010 One.
(Powerpack works fine but are expensive.)

But to attract a normal Windows user it must works out of the box.

Then Linux Mint 8 are a great choice for Gnome.

If you use KDE Pardus 2009.1 is a good choice to.

No problem to look for media codecs etc.. in different forums with them.
All things works.

I don't understands, what work out of box mean.

KDE/GNOME team and others will integrate hardware with software(or selects approved parts of both). There's no think, like working out of the box for users. User don't makes any choice.

You should selects OpenSUSE(not SLED). SLED is very slow comparing to OpenSUSE. OpenSUSE is slower than Ubuntu, but speed is not most important.

For users, OpenSUSE will be:
- very beautifully OS
- very simple OS
- operating system with normal installer
- operating system, which can be fixed to user on installation time
- installer will download drivers automatically
- Yast
- system with mechanism to install application with one click

For US:
- system, which supports PackageKit
- system with mechanism to install application with one click
- KDE is default environment

Minuses(comparing to Ubuntu):
- It is slower than Ubuntu
- Ubuntu have larger community

i am on kubuntu

and... it's pretty nice some stuff it's to improve but...

i really like debian speed on installing stuff
really a lots of people on ubuntu community =
super support...
