What about captcha? maybe you could think to implement it to prevent access from BOT ecc ecc

So far there obviously weren't any bot attacks. It seems like the postings were created by a human user. Otherwise we would have to suffer from even more postings.

So a captcha wouldn't help at all :-(

Captchas are a bad idea, because they make it impossible for the visually impaired to comment (although this is perhaps less of a problem on a site like KDE Look, but a lot of blogs shut out blind users with captchas).

A better answer would be a question with an obvious answer, changed often, such as a piece of very simple arithmetic or "what colour is an orange?".

You are just talking about image based captchas, there are other types of captchas that suits impared people better. I've got a text based captcha at my site that says stuff like:
Enter the sum of 10 + 6, or the comment will be rejected
This way you just stop people that can't count;-)

since we're talking about spamming, there's an user called 'xactive'...


this guy finds pics on the internet, then he posts them here, but he doesn't store the files on the kde-look server, so when you click on Download you get redirected to his website, which has many google ads, and he gets payed (hope not much).
and he reposts, and reposts some pictures, adding the 'updated' tag but without changing a single pixel, just to draw more and more visits to his website.

what a nice behaviour! what an artist!
i'm sick of this thing, and IMHO, this site's admins should issue him a warning (or to me, if i'm wrong, but i doubt it), also because many files are below the 750Kb limit. no other reason not to store them here.

It takes one click to disable ad-block, and 2 minutes to write a reply saying you don't see ads because of your ad-blocker.

Right-click the red octagon in the bottom right, un-check enable. refresh page.

Assuming you are talking about ad-block, and aren't on a mac, in which case, ctrl-click no doubt.

i ported the trust metric algorithm
to python if you need it.

you can still store the trust metrics
in xml and then use the python code
or heck maybe even the mod_virgule
engine itself just only with the /tmetric/
location reading the database of xml
that you create with stupid-php

plus, take a look at the discussions
regarding spam filtering that were
added in, to deal with spammers.

within days, every single spammer
that had ever been added, for six
years, was completely wiped out.

several pissed off users took revenge
on every spammer that had ever annoyed
them by spending several hours each
going through the entire user database,
comprising many thousands of users,
destroying the lot.

the nice thing is that the spammers
typically certify themselves and their
compromised accounts in 'rings', thereby
making it reeealll easy to identify
them.

so - don't even bother thinking of
just implementing the 'report as spam'
idea, because it will get abused and
your site will go rapidly downhill.

you _need_ to implement it alongside
trust metrics, as only 'trusted'
users are allowed to report spammers.

the solution exists - and has been
proven to work: now all _you_ need
do is implement it.

and, given that mod_virgule is only
about 12,000 lines of c code, very
few of which are _actually_ related
to trust metric creation and management,
it would actually be pretty damn easy
to add.

This site is so exasperating.

Is it open-developed?

1) Add bloody rel="nofollow" to any user generated links and stop whimpering about other things such as passwords
2) Who the HELL wrote this referrer checking on pages? This entire site doesn't work if you block referrers. That is broken. I was clicking on news articles, and even copying the URL. You know how I fixed it? removed everything except the id= from the query string and it worked.

You remove your referrer id check / redirect from your pages, or I'll use a greasemonkey script to parse out your URLs.

3) Why is the fon't size so bloody small on this input box?

1) Add REL=NOFOLLOW
2) Remove your referrerid checking.

Bloody annoying, when you think a site about icons and interfaces touches on much of usability.

Poor usability and clueless developers. Fix it.

You could then open the gates to anonymous commenting, and for all the good it would do spammers, they wouldn't get any benefit.

This site is page rank seven, saying stronger passwords are the answer is the most stupid things I have ever heard.
