Server update

Yesterday I moved KDE-Look.org, KDE-Apps.org and GNOME-Look.org to a new server and a new provider. Let's see how if performs.



Server update

The old dated hardware was a Celeron 1.2GHz with 512MB RAM, RedHat 8 and 1.5TB Traffic Limit.

We moved to a:
  • Pentium 4 3,2GHz
  • 1GB RAM
  • 160GB HDD
  • Gentoo Linux
  • 2.6 kernel
  • hand optimised PHP and MySQL
  • 10MBit Internet Connection (flat)



    • I hope this will fix our latest performance problems. Let's see how fast this baby can run. :-)

    and when i type http://www.gnome-look.org in browser, it is redirected to http://www2.kde-look.org/

    it's been this way since you've been back up.

    server issue or DNS?

    I think that the problem has had to some error of kde-apps server administration.

    I would like to see this site little different. Own area for KDE 3.4 window decorations and themes etc. Now they are in KDE 3.2+ link.
    (btw whats difference with Window Dec. 3.x and 3.2+? Which includes 3.4?)

    And 'screenshot' viewing is horrible. Thumbnails are so small that you can't see anything from them :( I don't like that screenshots open into new window.

    When viewing wallpapers like 1280x1024 when you click thumbnail I would like to see in fullscreen that wallpaper not more info about that wallpaper.

    Hmm and here should be forum based on phpBB etc. That would be nice improvement :)

    What do you guys think about my improvements ?

    In the end I would like to say. Yeah new server is always good thing :>
