Open-PC progress

I just want to informed about the latest news from the Open-PC project.

We just received the first Open-PC prototype. So we are really close to announcing the hardware and the price of the first Open-PC.
We are also working on the Operating System to make nice defaults and beautiful custom artwork. We will probably bundle the PC with Software Support but we are still working on the contracts at the moment.

Other questions are how we open up the development of the Operating System. We will probably set up a openSUSE build service project so that everybody can participate.

We will announce the final product soon.

I think Opensuse is best for KDE,and we know KDE is slower than Gnome thats why Ubuntu is faster than OpenSuse,if you take Kubuntu than OpenSuse is faster.If they are going to sell open pc than they can also provide Codecs.

Seriously, It's an Open PERSONAL COMPUTER "OPEN PC" we are talking about.

It's the users choice with Main/sub Distro. just sell the Computer and give the User a sample of Debian, OpenSUSE, Ubuntu, fedora... Just whatever works for them.
Gnome VS KDE? It's the users choice, we all get a share of honour. we are The Community, we are the People

It's open Source we are talking about, I want this project to be a success in hardware compatibility.

I like the concept, however the price tag is very high Vs. low end brand PC's that can be purchased locally.

That's going to kill the initiative.

You can't market a high priced desktop based on "it's totally open". Otherwise, System76 would be more mainstream. With that price tag, you'll only draw in a dedicated few.

I would assume that your business model is to promote open source to everyone, not just the open source community. "Everyone" is budget minded. They don't spend extra $ based on ideals. They need value. If it's not intended for everyone, then I really don't see the point of the whole endeavor. I could do this in my garage with off lease government Optiplex dual cores and sell them for half that amount.

Hopefully, I don't sound too critical; just surprised and confused by the price tag. Convert that to USD and your looking at $450.00. Wal-mart sells a linux desktop with monitor and printer for $299.
