Question:How to convert Sony PMW-F55 XAVC to QuickTime mov on Mac

Sony introduced one new 4K systems: the PMW-F55. This camera can capture 4096x2160 resolution on a single Super 35mm, 3-perf-format-sized CMOS sensor, and can also capture 4K and 2K RAW footage using Sony's new AXS-R5 recorder. Sony PMW-F5 and PMW-F55 camcorders are capable of capturing HD, 2K, QFHD (3840×2160) and true 4K (4096×2160) video in XAVC format. And the Sony PMW-F55/F5 is highly compact, lightweight and high-performance CineAlta 4K camera. PMW-F55 CMOS image sensor allows you to shoot clear 4K images without rolling shutter distortion or flash band phenomenon for perfect HD recording performance. The PMW-F5's 4K image sensor allows you to record in MPEG-2 HD video format and the new 4K-compatible format, XAVC, by using an SxS memory card.

However, the latest high definition XAVC video format introduced by Sony is not supported by FCP so far. To edit Sony PMW-F55 XAVC footage in Final Cut Pro 7 or FCP X smoothly, the easy workaround is to transcode Sony F55 XAVC to FCP ProRes, Apple ProRes is a friendly format supported by FCP X and FCP 7. If you want to play the XAVC video footage recorded with your Sony PMW-F55/F5 camera on computer for free, you can convert XAVC to MOV format, which can be viewed on many free media players on computer including QuickTime Player, VLC Media Player, Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, etc.
