Basic calendar usage?

ownCloud - Apr 8 2012
not answered
Question:Hi,

I am a complete first-timer to Owncloud. My goal is to set up an instance, and use it for keeping my contacts and calendar synchronised between my Android phone and my server.

So far, I have downloaded and installed owncloud 3.0.1 - this seems to have worked - but I'm a bit stuck as to how to actually *use* it.

I'm using a clean CentOS 5.8 install, and have already figured out that I needed to also install the php53-mbstring, php53-ldap, php53-gd and php53-xml packages to get things working.

Before paying £££ on the Android market for dmfs caldav sync, I thought I'd try the Lightning plugin for Thunderbird first of all, just to prove basic functionality - but I'm clearly missing something basic here, as I haven't yet managed to do this.

I successfully unpacked the owncloud source into the docroot of Apache; created an admin account; and also set up LDAP within owncloud so that I can log in - this works fine. (For future reference, in the "User Login Filter" field I have "(uid=%uid)", and in the User List Filter field I have "(objectclass=posixAccount)")

However - I can't figure out what to put into Lightning to get calendar synchronisation working.

When I log in using my web browser, I can see my calendar at:
https://cloud.mydomain/owncloud/apps/calendar/index.php

but I don't know what the correct URL for Thunderbird is. I have looked in the forums and on http://owncloud.org/support/usage/calendars/ - there are various suggest URLs but none seem to quite work.

I've tried
https://cloud.mydomain/owncloud/apps/calendar/caldav.php/calendars/myusername/calendar - which gives me a 404 error, so is clearly not quite right:
10.x.x.x - myusername [08/Apr/2012:15:59:22 +0100] "GET /owncloud/apps/calendar/caldav.php/calendars/myusername/calendar HTTP/1.1" 404 278

I've tried
https://cloud.mydomain/owncloud/apps/calendar/caldav.php
which gives a 207 response code but Thunderbird/Lightning doesn't show me a test event I created using the owncloud web calendar interface (it just says "The calendar is momentarily unavailable")
10.x.x.x - myusername [08/Apr/2012:16:00:46 +0100] "PROPFIND /owncloud/apps/calendar/caldav.php/ HTTP/1.1" 207 871

Adding an event using Lightning to the calendar above results in a 403 error:
10.x.x.x - myusername [08/Apr/2012:16:05:55 +0100] "PUT /owncloud/apps/calendar/caldav.php/767f2b41-d103-1647-9429-343b28b42b4e.ics HTTP/1.1" 403 326

and the following from Lightning:
Error code: MODIFICATION_FAILED
Status Code: 403, The user lacks the required permission to perform the request.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<d:error xmlns:d="DAV:" xmlns:s="http://sabredav.org/ns">
<s:exception>Sabre_DAV_Exception_Forbidden</s:exception>
<s:message>Permission denied to create file (filename 767f2b41-d103-1647-9429-343b28b42b4e.ics)</s:message>
<s:sabredav-version>1.5.4</s:sabredav-version>
</d:error>

I've tried creating a new calendar using the web GUI, as alluded to here:
http://forum.owncloud.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=74&sid=da05745363efed95531ef883597ac794&start=10
but I can't see a 'globe' icon in the web GUI, or indeed any way of referencing, linking to, or removing the calendar I have just created (myuser now has three calendars!)

Where should I be looking for debugging information (either in Lightning, or Owncloud)? There isn't anything in Apache's error log, and Lightning doesn't seem to give me much either..

Any suggestions appreciated.

Cheers,

Jonathan
