Description:

Planux is a new, starting Gamer's Ubuntu derivative that is looking for more graphical developers, who will at this point work on themes, and after that, GDM and USplash. Currently we are using XFCE, but might switch to LXDE. We are also looking for programmers to make custom applications that will be helpful to gamers. The first beta iso is out, but until our SourceForge page is finished registering, I need the e-mail addresses of the people who need the iso so I can invite them to my online storage folder on box.net. We have an IRC channel on Freenode (irc.freenode.net), which is #planuxos. The website currently is being mocked up by myself and oming101.

I'm amazed! That is a very nice wallpaper. It looks like that USplash is fake, but that is also a very good idea for it! Are you capable of making something like that?

I meant like, the actual loading screen for the OS. If you can't do it, that's fine, but it would look really nice.

What exactly are you looking for in the website??? I could provide a free host, as well as maybe some development. The development all depends on my workload with school work and family however...

Well, I have seen sites that I like the layout of.. Also, I'd like to see a place where we would be able to discuss things (A.K.A. a shoutbox, etc.) Without it being too difficult. This link is not related, but I like the layout (It was done in Freewebs site editor, but the rest of Freewebs' utilities suck..) Layout Example site: www.freewebs.com/chaosguthixclan
As you can tell by the way I talk about this, I don't know very much about websites.

Yea, it just looks like they're using a csm. Let me see what I can whip up. I'm in the process of reconfiguring my server anyways, looking for a decent csm to use on it. looks like the domain name is still available as well.

Alright, have a very simple, scratch mock-up up. Since the domain is not registered, you'll have to add this to your hosts file:

206.174.130.45 planux.org planux

then go to planux.org

I just threw that theme up to kind of show what we could do with layouts and such.

P.S. - You probably don't want to use a chatbox for development... I don't think it's going to serve the purpose you want it to. An IRC channel would probably be best. Let me know if you want one set up.

Wow, that is very nice! I should be able to whip up a logo to go in that bubble at the top of the page.. And also, since I'm a kid.. really, I can't pay for hosting, so you could use a host like t35.. it wouldn't be much of a problem because we could be a domain like planux.t35.com..
Anyway, thanks a lot! I'll get the logo to you soon.

By the way, it's not a good idea to say people under 13 can't register to our website.. BECAUSE I'M UNDER 13!!!

I just got a logo for the website up, with transparency so it won't kill the blue gooey image. http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=91882

Yea, the under 13 deal can be removed. It's just on there by default. Let me throw the logo up, and remove the age limit. Oh... and you wouldn't actually pay for the hosting, that's free from me. The ONLY thing that would cost money is the domain name itself, $10 a year. If need be I can pay that myself. I'd like to wait first though until we have a solid core for the site itself.

Ok. Under 13 limit has been removed, and logo has been put in. I will create the IRC channel and post it here, as well as on the site in a bit.

What's the deal with the big blank space on the main page? It's a big space with a little symbol, which probably means Konqueror can't read it.. I haven't managed to get Firefox to let me go to the website.

Also, I need the exact height in pixels of the gooey spot on the page where the logo goes, because the logo I made has part of our symbol cut off because of the height dimension.

78 pixels high and 733 long. and the image you posted had the top and bottom off the logo cut :)

not sure what you mean by blank spce... if you mean the black area under the under development post, that will fill in as new items get posted. the site itself will also expand down with new posts. and yes, planuxos.org is available.

 XFCE

I've been thinking.. we should switch over to XFCE because it's lightweight, and since it uses GTK there would be no problem running things like WINE, because I know that there are a lot of gamers out there who play things like World of Warcraft (including me). And XFCE takes up less processor, so games would run faster, especially games that have heavy graphics usage.

XFCE or LXDE (i don't know which one is lighter - LXDE has the advantage on being GTK based)
