Grow up children. Some of the comments in this thread are just plain dumb. "... because slackware is too hard"?! So you would rather have no new users change from Windows and ultimately let the Gates empire win? What, when you get down to it, is wrong with a distribution that targets entry-level users? Not everyone studied IT at uni or is a committed nerd. Some people don't want to learn shell scripting or programming. My suggestion - if you don't like Ubuntu, don't use it, and get a life.

Shouldnt you be gathered around a campfire singing koombayah while uploading something with an ubuntu logo on it?

I agree ubuntu is a great distro for beginers but, branding is one of the main reasons I moved away from proprietary.

Its better than windows or apple branding cuz its still open source, but its kind of selfish to give ubuntu all the credit.

I cant stand much more general than linux since the kernel is heart of the operating system. thats what should be given credit.

this group is kind of stupid, but so are people who are oblivious.

I therefore label this group as neutral.

let Windows keep the noobs and the top rung on the corporate ladder. more than half the problem with Windows is because noobs use it. Linux (and the applications... e.g. Firefox...) is not invulnerable, it is just still impractical to spend time exploiting it still when 99% of the users are smarter than the guy writing the spyware and virus.

also, I am not the worlds tech support. I have so many better things to do in life than deal with people who are having problems on their Mom's new Dell running Ubuntu because the 14 year old kid wanted to feel like a rebel against the corporate overlords.

oh. and most of the wallpapers are pretty crappy. lol.

You're totally wrong in everything you've just said.

Maybe keeping noobs on Windows will decrease the amount of fanboys posting bad wallpapers, but if you thought, just a little, you would understand that the increase in usebase that is caused by the influx of Ubuntu users is actually benefiting You.

Why? Because it increases various corporations' and organizations' awareness of Linux. For example, Dell started selling Ubuntu laptops, and I purchased one. Apart from the fact that I had no problems configuring my hardware, this benefited me by letting me save $50 on the operating system, and unlike the Windows version of this laptop, I had an option of purchasing a nice NVIDIA card. And apart from the nice drivers Intel supplies, thanks their work recent focus on power management, it allows me to use my laptop for 5 1/2 hours, which really pretty nice.

As for your claim that Windows is less secure than Linux, you're also wrong. I'm not going restate why - you easily find it yourself.

Oh yeah, and when did somebody ask you for tech support here?

Anyway I think you people are going way off topic. This group is supposed to be about hating the Ubuntu fanboys who create crappy wallpapers, not about hating noobs or Ubuntu itself ;)

Have you ever seen a known remote exploit in the linux kernel go for 6 months without being patched? I havent. We hear about this in windows and IE all the time. I would call that being less secure than linux.

But yes, you are right in the fact that this forum is swerving off into left field drastically. Apparently a few people who have commented along the way have crappy reading comprehension skills.

"ubuntu is an african word meaning slackware is too damn hard for me"

Actually it goes:

"ubuntu is an african word meaning Debian is too damn hard for me"

Because Ubuntu is variant of Debian. And Debian and Slackware are two different "main distros".

Ubuntu is little bad for Linux community.....

KDE is made for users by users....
What can you give back to others?

 Crappy wallpapers

I hate crappy wallpapers as much as the next guy but bashing people because of their OS is simply childish.

Please note I use Ubuntu and I have joined this group because I agree that the wallpapers shown on here (Branded, that is) are pretty bad - frankly I come here for window decorations and other themes - not semi nude women with a tat on their ass =P

Having said that, there is a moderation system meant to weed out the bad wallpapers from the good, I suggest using it liberally -- I do, anyway =)

The guy just did this group because he is upset why his artwork is so low rated (http://www.gnome-look.org/usermanager/search.php?username=tw1ggz&action=contents), while he sees a lot of crappy *buntu wallpapers with better rates.
