I love KDE 3.5x

KDE
Description:

I love multiple wallpaper on multiple desktop, with scroll button.
I love Quicklauncher, and all the quick drag and drop functions.
I love superkaramba with all the simple functions.
I have a top computer but kde4 is so slow.... The menu is so unperspicuity.
Kde4 have many spectacular visual effect, but for what?
During work, after 10 min, I shot down all effect, since too slow, and too embarrassing (or too ugly).
I love all the Ctrl+scroll functions,on kde3.5, and all the clocks....

Résumé: not everyone have a hyperspace computer, and new distros, with kde, must
have alternative for kde3.5 AND kde4.

 wallpaper per desktop in KDE4

Am I the only one having a different wallpaper per desktop in KDE4?
I defined activities and set one activity per desktop and voila. All switching back to KDE 4 now?

The ability to have one separate activity per virtual desktop isn't available in any version of KDE4 prior to 4.3. I currently have KDE 4.3 RC2 on on my laptop (I don't recall its specs of the top of my head, but it's about mid-range for a laptop I think) and when I turned that option on it slowed the whole system down considerably. Maybe the speed problem will change once KDE 4.3 is officially released, I don't know. I'm not banking on it.

I'm still trying to find what advantage to the user KDE4 actually gives over the 3.x series.

Can you please explain me how to have different wallpapers in every desktop, because I have discovered how to do this yet(only thing I haven't).
4.3 RC3 (K)ubuntu 9.04.
BTW:
3.5 still has few advantages over 4.but KDE 4 is the future.Still I prefer 3.5,but 4 isn't bad especially if not having ATi video card.

Click the cashew and select "zoom out" from the menu. Once you've zoomed out, you should see another menu on the top left of the screen with the option "configure plasma...". Select it and you will be given the option to choose whether you want a separate activity for each desktop, as well as an option "use a separate dashboard" (which I admit I don't know what it actually does).

I'd be interested if other people find this setting slows down their desktop as much as it slowed down mine.

That did the trick.Thanks!
I found another bug,though. ;)
When I'm using any GTK application it has awful style.I figured out that i can chenge the style from gnome-control-center.Downloaded oxygen style from gnome-look,installed it and GTK applications were looking perfect.Than i restarted to go to my Vista in order to scan it for viruses. After then scan i returned to KDE and ran firefox and the ugly style was used instaead of the oxygen which i was installed. After change in gnome-control-center everything worked fine, but each time i log in in KDE i have to change the GTK applications style to oxygen in order for them to look fine.I have checked systemsettings for GTK applications style, but there is no such option.
Any ideas?

everything that is useful for me...
Making windows react the way I want exactly, having the exact look I want, using DCOP (which is documented as well for scripts so that you can control anything).
Hope one day KDE 4 allow all this with the same simplicity.

 KDE 3.5.10

I really miss the days when konqueror was actually usable, instead of being a crippled shadow of its former self. Dolphin is so horrid! I missing the document embedding, the support formultiple protocols, .....

I partially agree with the konq part...
...not the dolphin part tho, it's a good
file manager, nothing more, nothing less,
but as far as file management goes, it
surely does the trick far better then
any other (I'm too stupid to understand
how to manage my files fast with krusader).

I completely agree with you. I can't believe they think dolphin would be easier to use than Konqueror.

I have 4 year olds using konq, they setup profiles, use multi plains, and tree view (which I was horrified to find was missing from konq in kde 4.x).

I can't honestly imagine what the KDE devels where thinking when they put this together. Granted there are some nice things about it, but nothing of any genuine importance, or use.

What they have accomplished is to take the world's most advanced and usable GUI and turn it into a windows experience. This, btw, is why everyone I put on KDE4 (22 adult testers, 18 children) all wanted off kde4.4.4 and back onto kde 3.x.

They seriously need to consider, ditching kde4 and picking up from 3.5.10, and first port it over to qt4.x. They can take the opportunity to clean it up as they go along to streamline it, THEN begin to improve it. So long as they don't remove any of the current functionality.

It would also be nice if they brought back the zoom effect that kicker once had, it was kool.

Rant over...

Still trying to skate uphill?

If you gonna complain about kde 4, at
least get your story straight, many
of those things you mention in the description
is actually available in kde4, just not
under the same name.

Not a KDE man at all but...

I would use kde3 over kde4 if I was forced to use one or the other. kde4 runs like crap on both of my dual core desktops each with 2gb ram...not only do I think kde3 performs better, its lighter on resources, it doesnt seem to have as many dependancies, its just all around better. All I can see that kde4 offers is some unessecary and unproductive eyecandy that I dont even think is all that great looking. Not to mention in order to even get kde4 to look any better than the common default set up (which is quite ugly imo) it takes a bit of work. And Im used to working to make my desktop look good, I use a simple openbox window manager with either tint2 or lxpanel. I edit text files and use cli apps like feh and xcompmgr to make my desktop look nice. I also find kde4 to be much more confusing to navigate than kde3. I also dislike the fact that certain apps like xchat and urxvt cannot be even psuedo transparent ...you have to use something like compiz-fusion which makes entire application transparent, which I hate. When Im chatting in irssi, I dont want to be staring at whatever tab is open in iceweasel...or the icons on my desktop...I also hate icons on the desktop. lol. They are clutter! Kde4 is cluttered up by default if you ask me. *shrug* This is just my opinion. If you like it..more power to you..atleast it isnt windows. Offtopic: I hate themes that try to emulate the look of windows xp or the windows 7 aero crap. It looks like crap on windows, and worse in KDE or Gnome.

Not only KDE 4 is piece of shit. Every KDE newer than 3.5.5 is piece of shit. KDE 3.5.6 is where they started dismantling KDE 3.5 in order to make it suck more that KDE 4 so people will say: "Wow, KDE 4 is better!". Just stick with KDE 3.5.5.
