Well my friend to be honest,those specs are not the best, You more than likely wont get compiz to work,And your memory will most likely be compromised,1 gig is the lowest optimal memory,But I have ran on 512, But LINUX Is all about experimentation!, Also you can load an optimal Ubuntu proper, the release of your choice, what ever your machine runs best on,And then customize it to All most Ultimate Edition, with Themes,Ubuntu tweak, Ultimatix,Ect.I have done this with older laptops as well as my macs! At least until you get a better machine, if this is something you would want to do send me a PM and I will give you some great customizing tips!

Alright, I just installed UE 2.4 on my desktop with these specs:
CPU: Single-core AMD Athlon 3200+ 2.2Ghz
RAM: 2 x 1GB
HDD: 150GB
GPU: ATi Radeon Pro X1650 256MB
(I can't get much of anything better. Our family is poor so we take donated systems)

The RAM use was very low, I like that. But, the CPU usage was tremendous. I want to keep the theme and all, but the CPU usage is extreme. Any way to tweak out any performance bugs that could be hogging the CPU power? It peaks at 100% use when while browsing thru Nautilus and such. Then again, I also have a single-core CPU, so the performance is low anyhow.

Just a heads up for those that have medium-low performance systems like I do.

I have had Ultimate Edition installed up and running now for 1 week and I must say it is the most stable and eye catching distro I have ever used ! I really don't like the new karmic log in window at this point, but I am hoping in the near future they will make some changes so it can be customized , But all in all Ultimate Edition 2.4 Really rocks ! and TheeMahn already has Ultimate Edition 2.5 in the works!! He is a mad Mahn !!
