...again a quicky before going to sleep.

This time, something... darker :) Yeah,
the dark side got me again with its seductive
sleekness ;-)

Themeing done with bespin.

And yes, haters gonna hate so any insults
regarding mac/aero comments very much appreciated,

I really like the theme and the top panel. The 'Places' side panel in the fm looks prety good as well (though I prefer my scrollbars a bit less 'gummy').

Your font rendering looks really good. is it a custom fonts.conf or just KDE's internal smoothing/hinting?

The previous and next track text in Amarok (Heard it All Before & Beyond the Pale) could use a bit more brightness (maybe 1-stop, if you understand photography terms... or at least the same level as the 'Now Playing' text at the bottom)

Absolutely love the systray icons on the top panel. What does the '(i)' stand for? The bottom panel/dock, not so much. I'd prefer it a bit more uniformed (similar tone to top panel and window decor).

I'm just nitpicking, btw (you asked for constructive criticism, right?). I don't have much mileage with KDE, so I'm not sure if my suggestions would improve it in terms of usability, so don't take me too seriously =P.

Cheers.

P.S
Bonus points for Mudvayne!! :-D

Thx for the detailed feedback :) was not
at all what I expected :D I expected more
something like "zomfglol why would you wanna
copy the vista look, micro$haft sucks!"

So thx for a real comment :)

About the scrollbars... yeah, first time
in a long time I tried them like that,
mostly use them like aqua... however, as
I moved to the dark side... aqua doesn't
quite fit the look :) agreed that they are
not good yet tho.

The places panel is pretty much default
I guess.... just the palette is swapped
to use the base color instead of window
color :)

Fonts rendering configured with kde
control center indeed :)

About the amarok text, that's hardcoded
afaik, however, that's not the problem,
the problem is me (I use too much transparency)
However, at this point, it seems I cannot
get enough of dark glass for some reason..

(i) stands for info... same as in the
plasma desktop, tray icons are some
3-click icons I threw together in inkscape
some months ago... been meaning to
redo them but.... heeeeey, one can
only spend so much time on the "cosmetica" :)

Thx for the bonus points btw :D so
whats my total then? ;-)

Oh, and I love it when I get criticised,
sometimes its the only way to me on my
ass and fix something :D

sweet design, although too "mac-ey" for my taste. but i personally think this design is better than snow leopards's i really do. like the other guy said, you have to work on your fonts. they are nice but they really get messed up when they are used in certain applications.

Hehe, thx! Yeah I know about the fonts,
right now, I don't care (as long as it's
glassy), because if I wanted them more
visible (contrasted) then I'd have to make
the windows more opaque... and I'm not doing
that ;-)

Hehe, yeah, the openoffice icon, I barely
use openoffice, and I just noticed that
after I took the shot... couldn't be bothered
to make a new one at that hour... thx
for pointing that out tho :D

 Desktop tunred green

by shedied on: Oct 18 2010

Score 63%

I guess I was dazzled by the colors so I put everything together like this. It all started from the wall (well, that right side of the wall). Then came all the other pieces I had scattered around.

http://s2.kimag.es/share/86085865.png

Reminded me of my Litestep days, making everything come together, starting with just the one piece:

dont_call_my_name by dreamlessxpassion

followed by

C102k_-_Olive_KAI bacause it was either this or the the Olive BMP from an earlier shot in this group

Finally Clearlooks-Olive for the GTK2 finishing touch (though it's not shown)

just havin fun on a weekend, scripting the corner thumbnail sequence for the pager bg, and sorting the weather output

Only in it for the eye-candy. What's *your* excuse?

Aw man the wall gets all covered up! So what I do is I always run a drop-down console so I can let the bg show via transparent urxvt -- the dropdown is actually a root session to let me do admin stuff e.g. network restarts. So even if I let awesome do the tiling, I'd rather the root be out of sight, out of mind; you could accidentally run a destructive command in the wrong window, but having to hit Pause key makes it a more conscious decision. Then I split THAT dropdown with tmux or dvtm for the user to run 'noisy/TMI' commands.

http://shedied.deviantart.com/#/d31qf54

Above: The closest thing to icons I might have. These can be inproved but, like theRob said, too much time cosmetizing. Enlarged only for the view; more like 42px IRL.

Dropdown console is indeed the way to go,
since I discovered yakuake I've never looked
back :)

It's so handy, it's more like a reflex
nowadays to hit f12 whenever I want the
console, so when on other computer I get
frustrated when no konsole shows when I
hit f12 no matter how hard I hit it ;-)

Interesting take on the icons I must say,
at least you don't have to worry about
consistency ;-) looks cool.

 Damn, it's November already!!

by gutterslob on: Nov 3 2010

@shedied
That's actually quite a feasible idea, having something like tilda drop down for root work. Problem is I'm a but too attached to urxvt, and I already have a keycombo in my config to open up a root rxvt.

As for the term covering the wallpaper, I guess it depends on my setup. Remember my old post about aesthetics and how I don't like the borders doubling when tiled side by side in ScrotWM, Awesome, xMonad, etc? .. sort of the same theory here.

The border effect of tilers (with 0 padding) sorta demands a solid background for me (the borders just look too weird if the term is transparent). If I'm on Openbox or FVWM on the other hand, then I usually opt for a transparent term and have dvtm + dtach handle my cli app tiling (I usually just float the GUI ones)

Anyways... here's a couple more.

Same ScrotWM setup on the netbook, but with a slightly different .Xdefaults colour-scheme.

http://ompldr.org/vNjBxcQ

Haven't posted GUI shots in a while, so here's my current Openbox setup on the same machine. it's an old GTK+OBT+Wallpaper combo I made a few months ago. Icons are the usual AnyColorYouLike.

Cheers.

Very sleek!

But my preference would be to eliminate all that is white, and replace it with a light shade of blue or gray. Like in the playlist, maybe another tone of blue instead of white, but again that is a personal preference, from a lifelong habit of nighttime browsing.

I wonder how your sister *wink managed to sneak her Britney playlist on there, instead of the dethmetal...

Yeah the second all webpages are optimized
for a shade other then white as bg I will
make the views a darker shade of white ;-)

Personally I'd like to have the views too
dark... however, that causes problems plus
I still haven't managed to make a look
that would fit all apps that way.

*whistles* yeah I wonder how that happened
