Description:	Yeah, this is a group where I thought we could post screenshots of our desktops. Why? well, I like looking at other ppl's desktops and configurations, they give me Ideas I can't possibly have with my current IQ. I don't think you ever menioned it, do you use a tiling window manager? Or a single term and split it with something like tmux?

I have been playing with a few that reload-configs-on-the-fly. Conky doesn't really play well with too many of them though.

Only in it for the eye-candy. What's *your* excuse?

Depends on the screenshot.
The one above is just Terminator (I think) running dvtm in my Openbox session.

This, on the other hand, is a tiling WM (ScrotWM)

Oh, I forgot to mention; you can pipe conky output to a lot of the bars/panels that come with a few tiling WMs. Eg: get dzen for DWM or Musca and you'll be able to display conky info (as long as it's all in 1 line) in them. ScrotWM comes with a 'baraction.sh' script that you can uncomment in the .scrotwm.conf, and it'll pick up the stuff in your .conkyrc.

Some tilers allow you to set padding so that you can have conky (or panels like tint2, for example) placed on top or bottom as well.

Looks good for a prelim, I'd say.
I'd use it (or at least the folder icons) if I needed a glossy blue setup.

I've always loved dvtm. Use it a lot from the framebuffer tty on old hardware, but I wanted something with a bit more... err... wallpaper (lol), so here's dvtm in a fullscreen Urxvt terminal running on the lightest WM I know of, Ratpoison.

Weird combo, but works well for my CLI-only needs.

Day setup

Nice, I used to use dvtm too, until that time that a system message cut across the divider instead of being contained in one pane; that messed up the screen and since they were diagnostic messages from the wifi, it happened over and over. I hadn't really gone further investigating (to get less verbose messages, etc) since a friend mentioned tmux; I use that now when I can. I still keep dvtm as a fallback, though.

Funny, though, we've made all these advances in graphics and GUIs, and here we are trying to make it look like DOS :D At least, that's what I think to myself while I configure the screen to output more text...

No man!! Motorcycling is my life, scripting I just do cos I never seem to be happy with how 'default' stuff works ;-P ... made the script, btw (was just lazy before)

Honestly, I'm pretty much a noob, code-wise. I'm pretty handy at simple stuff like Bash, Lua and some Perl, but suck at Haskell, Ruby, etc.

I never really saw the need for a DevArt account (even though my actual profession is graphic arts & photography related). Didn't think most people outside the usual Linux forums or here would even care for CLI/term styling. It's just something I share for fun, anyway.... don't really want a 'fanbase' or whatever.

Shame you dropped the icon project. :(
I know icon theming is pretty tedious, though.

What's even more ironic is that I'm in the graphic arts field (day job) and yet seem to prefer CLI for a lot of my computing. Maybe it's just a side effect of staring at Lightzone/Cinepaint/Corel Painter/Inkscape interfaces all day. Or maybe it's because typography is a style I always admired but was never good at, and the clarity/sharpness of a desktop filled with Terminus, MonteCarlo, Profont, Artwiz or whatever pixel-font acts as a 'release' for me..... or something like that :-/ (I'm suck at explaining stuff, sorry)

I'm actually a huge fan of Tmux (prefer it to Screen). Anything from the BSD guys tends to be quality. Use it quite often on smaller screens like my netbook

Reason I prefer dvtm is probably aesthetics. I just like how it colorizes the top line of active windows and how the vert-splitting bar doesn't go all the way down to the bottom of the screen. It just seems to heed to the "minimalism = giving negative space the respect it needs" law better than other tiling WM's or terminal multiplexers. Another reason is symmetry. For example; in a tiling WM, if you set a 1pixel border for windows, tiling them horizontally results in the border in-between becoming 2pixels (1pix from the left window + 1 pix from right)... I always hated that!!... totally throws my symmetrical sensibilities off the wall. (yeah, I know I'm probably more anal than most with regards to trivial stuff like this, but I can't change who I am)

Dvtm also has the benefit of needing a really simple config.h to get working. I usually just edit a couple of lines and recompile to get my desired level of efficiency.

Oh, and I had the same problem with some WiCD-curses notifications on earlier versions, shedied. I did sent a half-working patch to the devs, and I assume they perfected it and incorporated it to more recent versions, cos I haven't encountered such problems for a while. (not really sure if it's 100% fixed or not, though)

@gutterslob I thought nobody could beat my anal-ness. A miscolored line on a plain border would force me to check what I'd missed (e.g, was the date or status supposed to start there) or stand up to get a cup of coffee. Thanks for the heads up on dvtm and for the little art lesson. I could only be so succinct in my sig

Am just a hack and I use the art to distinguish the windows; normally there'd be a window for mail and another for internet.

When slashdot ran a survey, How many icons on your desktop, a lot of respondents say, So what if I got plenty, who looks at the desktop anyway? These poor people, never seen a transparent terminal, or worse, are stuck on Windows. me shakes head and answers, I* do :)

Hi! Have I ignored some of your messages
or something? if so, sry, not my intention :(

About the configs however, I never
export them as I change my config like
7 times a day so it would be a lot of
configs....

...right now the colorscheme and config
looks nothing like in the screenshot, I
scrapped the aqua look and I'm now aiming
more for a marble/graphite look sry.

However, I don't see the big deal with
the bespin configs, is just clicking a
few buttons and that's it :) Takes like
2 min tops to create a suitable bespin
config for you.

Aahh ok, no problem I understand that :)... I tried a few times to make a good looking bespin config, but everytime it looks not really good, so I use your dolpher2 configs :D ... Whatever, I go on and try to make a good looking config for me.

Shouldn't be too hard, considering that
the default looks very good already, so
if you just go from there and change the
stuff you want, you're off to a good start :)

I think the most important thing to keep
in mind is the color scheme, almost any
config will look good with the right usage
of colors.

+1 for not using a dockbar. i know you used awn, but it doesnt count as a dockbar cause you used lucido mode. Its not a fail, although you could use a little work with your window decoration.

I would need gnome panel for that... and
no, I do not use gnome panel :D, or awn
for that matter.... did recently try
cairo dock tho, it seems to be the only
"serious" dock for linux atm :)

Hmmm the screenshot tool caused those 'hiccups' on the falling leaves. I also have one where it's bullet casings in slow-mo instead of leaves, when I feel like shooting. Especially on Mondays.

Oooh... that look nice.
Borders are a bit too thick for me, but everything else looks quite usable.

I also like the theme you have for your audio player (xmms?) in the previous shot. Reminds me of retrofunkation.
